MHD Flex Fuel

Hi,

As I moved to Arizona I now have to deal with crappy gas, but have an E85 station reasonably close.
To keep it daily driver simple and being able to fill up anywhere the MHD Flex Fuel solution sounds great.
I have MHD Stage 2 (no logging license as I didn’t have the time to really get into it) so it seems as if I only need:
A) TU Fuel pump
B) MHD FlexFuel Analyzer Kit
Install , change Flash to Flex Fuel with the slots 91/93/95/2+ 95
Is it that easy?

What are your goals for running flex fuel? TU pump is needed if you want to run anything over E25/E30 blend on the Gen 1 B58. I've been running 3 gallons of E85 in my tank (E23 blend) and have had some fuel rail pressure drops and trims getting high with both the JB4 tune I had and now with MHD stage 2 93 octane.

I recommend being able to data log and send to experts for review. Jump to different maps and check out the metrics.

But getting the TU pump installed will remove a lot of the worry and hassle with getting the Gen 1 B58 dialed in on stage 2 and beyond maps. The flex fuel kit would be super convenient for seeing your E-reading. I've just been doing the math every fill up.

And the flex. fuel kit would talk to the MHD tune which then would select the appropriate map.
A set and forget option IF my understanding is correct.

Running MHD Flex Fuel kit on mine.

yes its as easy as it sounds. TU Pump and Flex fuel Kit install can be done at the same time to not repeat extra steps.

Now I only have to find a installer in Glendale, AZ (Phoenix Metro Area). Not AZ Euro as they would not work on parts I bring to be installed.

Are you happy with the results after installation?
Have you done any logging to see how the numbers look based on whatever mix you're running?

Note:

If you have 91 fuel and want to use FlexFlue then you are limited to Stage 2 even with TU pump. As the 4 slots are filled with the same base map (according to the "how to" video) and there is no 91 Stage 2+ (which in itself would be not needed as fueling is not the limit) and I can't rely on E being available everywhere .....
MHD make a 91 ACN Stage 2+ map just for FlexFuel purposes. This way we are safe at the crappy 91 we get but make use of the TU pump at E40-50 ...

Initially I had 2 issues.

1. flex fuel map was limited to stage 2 tune (not 2+ which is more powerful for HPFP so I was basically running a less than desirable map)

2. It threw some odd codes.

Both were resolved pretty quickly, the flex fuel analyzer needed a firmware update (pretty simple) - I contacted MHD on facebook and had a fix basically within an hour, and MHD released 2+ flex fuel map update maybe a week after that.

Im very happy so far. I fill up primarily at only 1 station so my usual estimate lands me right at e42 or so, but still peace of mind because when traveling across the state, or further, because its sometimes its harder to find an e85 station, and I didnt want to deal with the hassle of re-flashing a 93 octane map, then getting home, refueling, reflashing an e40 map again.

Its mostly peace of mind but yes, I would say I am happy and it is worth it.

The install is incredibly simple. I would say easier than downpipe both in tools required and in overall labor.

Its basically replacing a fuel line, unplugging a DME cable to add in the extension, and routing a few wires after. The majority of the time spent is on disassembly (you need to basically do the entire top disassembly as you would for a spark plug job, removing strut brace, foam, all the fun stuff)

Thank you for that feedback and sounds like your happy with it! I've been running E on a few different platforms since 09 and been doing it the old fashioned way lol... with good results... but, maybe it's time to stop the measuring... and join the most current tech...

In a perfect world you'd get no corrections

I live in istanbul. Gasoline quality is very low here. I think the ignition timing is too low on flex fuel on OTS maps. or mhd eca kit keeps trying to get 0 timing correction. I still haven't figured out how it works.
