Dinan CF Airbox-Sound and Performance

No doubt the Dinan CF intake is a beautiful piece.

How much performance gains can you really feel?

How noisy is it?

I am disabling the "fake engine noise" and am also curious how much actual noise that creates?

I added a catted DP and love the noise. I wouldn't want it any quieter.

For those that have this intake, what is your post purchase review?

Thank you!

Good stuff, pretty inexpensive, a must buy!

PS:

I started with AP CAI, which is an open filter type. You could hear the turbo so much! My elderly neighbor said it sounds like an airplane. lol
I switched to Dinan and really can't hear the turbo that much. Almost like stock sound (I think). I haven't compared the two directly, so maybe I'm just used to the loud AP.
I can't feel a difference, but I think they claim 13hp.
I think in the cooler weather I'm going to put the AP back on and use the Dinan for warmer weather.

I've had mine for a month or so. Can't really say I notice a big performance gain or anything. As far as sound I definitely can't hear anything in the car. Outside if you rev it up you may hear a little bit in the higher rpms when you let off the throttle. That's about it though.

CAI as a rule do not add much in performance I would guess on the M240I Dinan over stock would be about 8HP to the wheels - as for sound nothing inside the car but you can hear the woosh at high rpm outside

I get some turbo sound at lower RPMs in light to moderate acceleration (20-40mph), but it is drowned out by the engine and exhaust in any other case. I don't notice any performance difference in street driving. Looks great in the engine bay!

What fake engine noise? And what is your plan to disable it (if it exists)?

He is talking about Active Sound Design (ASD) which is just engine/exhaust noises being played over the speaker. You can disable it with a flash tuner such as Bootmod3 or you can use Bimmerlink (or equivalent) to code it out.

I added this harness and it makes things really quiet. I would rather have real noise outside the cabin

Don't expect a lot of noise. Go for the AP intake if you want lots of whoosh.

There isn't much power increase for any of these intakes. Nothing you'd feel. Consider it more of an assistant to the parts that matter. I.e. downpipe.

The CF intake is damn sexy though. Gives you bragging rights. You'll be looking for excuses to open the hood.

Look for a used one and you'll find a good deal. Don't be bamboozled into buying new. Unless you don't like money

Looks very nice. Maybe a bit of sound increase, nothing like a super charger, but audible inside the car. Only adds a few HP and Torque.

Adding it to a Dinan Stage 1 I can't feel anything different. Possibly if I raced (1/4 mile) or dyno'd the car it would show up, but is a car is making really good HP and Torque, adding 15 isn't going to be as noticeable compared to a car that is struggling with low HP and torque and you increase it by that amount.

Just my $.02

I like mine. Mild sound improvement. More aggressive under WOT

Only time I hear it is when I'm using launch control or occasionally if there's a car or a barrier next to me on the highway. When I'm WOT I'm usually more worried about going back in time to be paying attention to the noises the car makes.

I have a similar question pertaining to this lovely CAI. I have mine ready to install into my 2020 240i Coupe but noticed last night the lower 6mm hose clamp is some ways down and no room to get to it to loosen it. How did you guys, or how "would" you get to that one hose clamp? Everything else looks pretty easy and straightforward. Agree with not noticing a performance gain and slight noise gain, just from my previous ones I have had in other cars. Thanks in advance,

Tiny people with tiny hands, or bendy ratchet tools, or pull the engine, or sorcery.

I had the same issue. I turned that damn screw mm at a time for a few hours before loosening it. If the idiots just placed the location of the screw in a slightly better place...1 minute. Lol.

Any reason for switching to dinan other than just looks?
