well because M2 has chassis, suspension, cooling, diff, etc that is a step above other 2s

And I quote, "...6 percent increase in turbine wheel size and 10 percent increase in compressor wheel diameter, resulting in a 20% increase in boost pressure..." which explains how the B58 is hitting the dyno numbers it is.

Still, put this into the sexy little 235 frame, add x-drive and a new wider-ratio 8AT, and the daily grind will take on a new meaning!

All the hand wringing over the M240i's performance compared to the M2 is hilarious. Put the M240i around Hockenheim Short and let us know the time. You'll be hitting 2:15, if you're lucky.

Look at the history of the M-car and you can see that it has never been a drag racer. The US market E30 took nearly 7 seconds to do 0-60, yet it is universally praised as a fantastic drivers car. Why? Because focusing on acceleration only is a very narrow view of automobile performance.

The M235i/M240i are great cars. I'm not knocking them. I also agree that for a lot of people, the M240i makes a lot more sense than the M2. If you're never going to a track, or don't have access to good twisty roads, there's not much point in an M2 over the M240i. But that doesn't change the fact that the M2 has much better roadholding and handling.

If this is coming out later this year then I made a mistake by not waiting. If it's coming out next year then I'm happy. I don't think I could wait another year. I hope the auto-rev matching can be turned off in any mode. Not just when you turn off traction control as it is in the M2. I love rev matching on my own.

I'm kinda thinking they go and with some radical design changes and will probably make an S58... And then an N58B30T0..

Sounds like two marketing depts that were not talking to each other.

Maybe next years M2 will come with a version of this engine?

Too bad that BMW didn't put the same MPPK as in the 340i/440i (355 hp vs 335 hp).

What I don't get is BMW's reluctance to offer an out of the box package like this for the 3. A little effect and you could probably sway quite a few S4 buyers

So the facelift will be coming next fall as a 2018 M240? Timing wise that may work out well for me.

M2 and M240i are different beasts. Both beasts, the M2 I would bet will be an very different experience, with the M240i being the better daily for most people and the M2 offering more thrills.

I'm so happy for the people who want a kickass 2 series that can't wait in line for the M2. I was very fortunate to get my car, by getting on the list before all but one salesperson new it was around the corner. If I hadn't gotten it, I'd be thrilled right now, although I personally would have probably gone outside the brand if I couldn't have gotten the M2.

I do however really for bad for a recent M235i buyers. But I guess this was a fairly predictable evolution.

However, maybe you guys could work out an early buyout if you're leasing, to get the LCI version!

I don't think anyone should be surprised if they did their homework. 240 has been rumored for quite some time. This is actually good news for those looking to score a smoking good deal on a 235 leftover in the fall.

Yeah, you're right. I guess it just sucks for people who really couldnt wait, otherwise like you said, it's kind of on them if they're disappointed.
