Tell that to my wheel/tire

They refused to pay for the wheel at first. They gave it back to me with a new tire. My friend pressed lightly on the sidewall where the damage was and it started leaking air immediately. They then wanted me to pay the deductible again which I refused.

Not so sure it will pay off over the term of the insurance though, took over a year to use it once.

damn dude, you hit somewhere fierce! when u busted mine the hole wasn't nearly that big and my wheel had no damage. I'm guessing those are those 18"? sidewall looks small probably due to the lack of air. that's must've sounded like hell from inside the car.

I had 18" wheels with a 45 sidewall spec on my rx8 for 6 years and never had an issue. I still think the $ for the deductible and insurance isn't worth it.

Yeah 245/35/18 which come on the M235i. Didn't really feel that bad in the car when it happened honestly, I've got a bad back and it didn't bother it. Was going only about 15-20 mph and there was a metal plate over the road for construction and it must have just hit right. I did have 3 people in the car so that may have contributed to it.

For those who don't want the whole package, you can get just tire coverage from your local shop for around $100. Has saved me a ton of $.

No one has mentioned price on this thread. I wasn't planning to get the 5 year plan, but I did anyway for a couple reasons. Got 5 years for $1,500 for the BMW "new" plan that should cover curb rash, etc.

If you don't use it or change your mind, this plan is pro rata refundable.

I paid around $1500 too, but they started at $3000. I think they just start high so you think you're getting a deal.

Well worth.
$50 deductible, changed multiple tires already (with upgrades)

Next up is the wheel that has pothole damage, still a $50.

the BMW tire warranty is down right amazing IMO. You can literally call the dealer and say u have a tire warning light on. Pull the car over a little ways before the dealer..jam a nail or screw into the sidewall of the tire and they will replace the tire run-flat or not.

Shit ive done it on my car for all 4 tires lol..
Just dont do all 4 at once or BMW will question it big time.. but even if ur like i need 4 new tires... puncture a tire one week... wait a week or 2... puncture another one..and so on.. people do it all the time here lol.

I bought it with my new M240i.

3 days later I had to use it as I got a nail in my rear left tire, it was too close to the sidewall to repair.

I had to pay was $50.

Depends on where you live...

My BMW belonged to my father. He lived on Staten Island, so New York City with some pretty bad roads. The car is equipped with run flat tires, low profile. Apparently hitting a pothole with a low profile run flat is enough to damage the sidewall. In the two years my father had the car, he had 13 flat tires caused by hitting potholes. Some of these potholes actually took out 2 tires simultaneously! This is a known issue with the run flat tires specifically, it doesn't take a whole lot to make a hole in the sidewall. They're also outrageously expensive to replace, maybe roughly $1000 a piece.
His tire protection warranty has now saved him $13,000 in new tires. His tire protection warranty has saved him so much money the dealership has started trying to get out of replacing his tires, one told him he had reached the lifetime limit for warranty payout but after arguing they did replace it anyway because they have to. Another dealership tried to convince him they had the right to refund him the warranty purchase price and void it out.

So for most of you spread out across the country, or those of you with normal tires, no the tire protection plan makes absolutely no sense. But if you live in a northern city with freezes and terrible roads, and you have run flats, the plan will likely save you a fortune.

You can replace 4 225/40-18 Pirelli runflats on a 228i for less than $1000, currently $220 a tyre on Tire Rack: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...omCompare1=yes

The cost difference of runflats compared with equivalent non-runflat tyres is now around 20%.

The issue isn't so much the runflat tyres when it comes to the propensity to be damaged, but more low profile tyres in general.

I generally replace runflats with conventional tyres after the 1st set on my BMWs due to the handling and wear characteristics, but have had several sets so far without a single blowout or need for replacement due to damage up here in our frost heaved and potholed roads in the spring, I do tend to slow down to cross over them if there is no option to avoid, as I do for railway crossings, too.

Sorry bumping an old thread. But does anyone know if I have the full tire/wheel/cosmetic package, if I change my wheels to different BMW oem wheels/tires will they still be covered?
