M240i Recall
I just had my car at the dealer getting the oil changed and brake fluid flushed. They gave me a call and said there was a recall for a "glitch" in the system that would require reprogramming. They said the "glitch" would have the car throw a CEL. They told me it would take 5 hours to reprogram everything so I opted to not do it as I needed the car back.
I go to the BMW website to lookup what the recall is, and low and behold, there are no recalls for my car. My SA told me the recall number is "12 01 19". All of this seems a bit odd and not adding up. Any of you ever had this same issue? I remember seeing something similar to this happening in Canada and then the car was sluggish/less responsive and the exhaust burbles were quite a bit less noticeable. |

It is going on in England as well. It is the DME unit being changed or reprogrammed. They have done this on my m240i and G30 5 series when they went for routine servicing. It is a silent recall

It is important to distinguish between a “recall” which involves NHTSA, and a “service campaign” which is an action an OEM may undertake at will without notice.

Agreed, however, he used the exact wording of it being a recall. More than likely just using a generic term on his end.

I got a letter to take the G30 from BMW to a dealer with a list of possible symptoms but after the EGR recall had been done as part of the servicing. The phrase 'EGR cooler recall' was used on the receipt.
My m240i is still with them for like a month now waiting for a part from Germany to replace the rear LED trafficator. So I don't have a receipt yet . I am using a newer replacement m240i which I cannot wait to return. Its step auto gear (2TB option) is so slow to change unlike mine, the exhaust is so muted.

When I took mine in for a 9000? mile service (oil change, mainly) they said they needed to do the ECU update I believe you are talking about and that they wanted at least 5 hours to do it. He didn't use the word "recall" but said "they want us to make sure any car that comes in has it done". Didn't provide any details about what changes were in the update. I've heard some folks swear the exhaust was quieter after, I believe.

I had the same thing done last week. SA also referred to it as a "recall" that required DME software update. All my settings were reset after I got the car back. I had read about the exhaust being quieter after this update, but I honestly can't tell if the exhaust has changed or not since getting the car back.

What's the recall and how do you check if your particular car or VIN is affected? I most recently did maintenance in August, nothing came up, and I don't plan to use the dealer now that the "free" 36K maintenance is over, so I want to know if there's something I should address before warranty ends at 50K

I got one in my email yesterday from my dealer. The email provided a website to verify the recall. I could enter my VIN and see if my specific was affected. When I did, I received "No Recall on your vehicle".
On that website they provided an option to allow any recall info be sent via email based on the VIN I provided. I checked the box since this is my BMW dealership. I would imagine anyone entering their VIN could see if a recall is pending https://www.bmwoffortmyers.com/bmw-r...erv_2019-09-05 |

I had the Canadian Recall “Campaign ECR-B0001-19-002 Program Control Units DME” done on Fri, the dealer had the car for about 3 hours from my drop off to pickup. No noticeable difference in performance or sound, as verified in this thread: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1631041
My car showed no recall pending on the bmw.ca website (likely due to Transport Canada not mandating it yet). The description in the recall letter was: “Due to a software error within the ECM, the monitoring for the oxygen sensor heater is disabling itself after the pending fault code is set, so that in the following driving cycles the malfunction cannot be confirmed (no confirmed fault code is set) and the MIL will not illuminate, this issue could cause emissions to exceed the prescribed standards.” On the back of the letter it indicates that your warranty may be invalidated if you don’t have the recall done. |

Is it possible that this is only for cars with the automatic transmission? I hate to get a re-flash because I set up several customized settings (like digital speedometer and an accurate speedometer reading), and my Carly subscription has lapsed.

I just looked at my work order from my service visit last week when they did this mysterious recall. Here is what it says:
PERFORMED NECESSARY RECALL PER BMW B120119 Service Action: Program the Digital Motor Electronics (DME): B12 01 19 10012880400 PERFORMED NECESSARY RECALL PER BMW
