228i/230i M Sport vs M235i/M240i cosmetics?

Hello,

Wondering aside from the badging, if there were any difference between the cosmetics and body kits of the 4 cyl with the M Sport package vs the 6 cyl cars.

Thanks!

Painted/badged calipers and a dual exhaust/diffuser are the first things that come to mind.

Do a Build Your Own on the BMWUSA website comparing the two. As far as I know (I have the 230i MSptPkg), the main external differences are the wheels and the twin exhausts. I know the front fascia is similar as I purchased a ScrapeGuard kit which fits my model as well as the M235 model. The cabin accessories look to be the same as well. One other thing, the 4 cyl has fog lights while the 6 cyl doesn’t due to the need for the extra cooler which occupies the location where the fog light would be.

Not true -- at least not anymore. 2020 230i M-Sport doesn't have fog lights.

Also black side-view mirrors & black wheels are standard on the 240.

Pretty sure this covers the cosmetic differences...

Are the mirror covers black now? My 2017 M240 came with silver mirror caps a la Audi S. Needless to say I immediately swapped them for carbon fiber because silver mirror caps on a blue car looks dumb as hell.

Yep- all black now regardless of exterior color.

Silver doesn't make sense... good choice on your end to swap!

If anyone wants to donate unused Glacier Silver mirror caps, head over to the Official GLACIER SILVER 2 Series Coupe/Convertible Thread, pick an owner and send them a PM! I'm sure we'd all appreciate spare parts!

Black didn't work well for me either...nothing short of bodycolor please! Dealer repainted before delivery.

My 2020 230i M-Sport does indeed have fog lights. True, the online build, after I build mine, doesn't appear to have them.

2017 230i

M-sport with THP creates the same look as the 240i circa 2017 and 2018. Not sure about the newer models. I like the same body color side mirrors! When you go THP you lose the fog lights.

Is that a recent change? I have THP and kept the fog lights on my 2015. If I had chosen MSport, then the fog lights would have been deleted.

I wonder if the fog light delete only occurs when BOTH THP and the MSport pkg are selected for the 228 and 230 models? I have the MSpt pkg but not THP and my 2019 230i came with fog lights and in your case you only have the THP.

And, we don't necessarily have a good sequential tracking of this detail for each model year. Could have changed.

When I ordered the 230i build I was told that the combination of MSport and THP deleted the fog lights, at least for cars destined for the USA. When I asked my dealer rep why he stated that it was to maximize aerodynamics and air flow into the engine.

I think we all agree with this result, but are trying to pull apart whether it's the THP or the MSport that causes the fogs to drop...or only the combination? In 2015, it was just MSport that deleted fog lamps, with or without THP.

My 2020 230i MSport was ordered on May 31 and delivered the third week of July. I do not have the THP. A few weeks after I ordered the online build changed and visually shows no Fog lights with the MSport.

Well, that answers the question, for 2020 with MSpt Pkg, no fog lights (as was in 2015). My 2019 MSpt Pkg model does have fogs, so it seems BMW has reversed itself for 2020.

That may be what happened, but, at no time, to my knowledge, did the Track Handling Package cause fog lights to be deleted.

And in the middle of the model year. Is that precedented?

The absence of fog lights is usually a sign of auxiliary radiators, and so a good thing, as on the 35/40. I can't think of any other good reason for the omission, since the fogs are standard on lower-priced models.
