Here is a end of July built car and the front caps (1st pic) stick out a lot more than the rear (2nd pic). This might be why they are popping out. I tried to push them in but it is as far as they will go. Lets see how the 2015's look. Wonder if this has been communicated to BMW yet

Looks like I just joined the club. My front left one first fell off about 3mo after I bought the car, luckily it was in my garage and I popped it back on without a thought. Unfortunately, I just got home from a work trip in Dallas and noticed I lost it for good. Just sent an email to the dealership to see what they say!

Lost my right front cap today at 1,700 miles. Immediately pulled the left one off (way too easy) and put double sided duct tape around it. That baby ain't coming off any time soon because I couldn't budge it.

It's pretty simple...
1) pray the cap off carefully not to scratch it...with a small flat screwdriver or some trim removal tools (shouldn't be too hard given that people lose them so easily ) 2) put some painters tape or any other tape you want around the clips so that you get a tighter fit 3) push the cap back on the wheel.. home depot has good price on the tape |

Found out why this happens today. It's the heat from the front brakes. The plastic holder on the wheel cap gets distended by the brake heat and the cap losens from the housing. Rear brakes don't get so hot so the rear caps remain secure.
Don't use tape else the clips on plastic holders will get looser, bending more towards the centre. Try to use those black rubber sticky paste that they have at the tire shops. Will keep the shape of the plastic better Last edited by ScrappyDoo; 09-27-2014 at 06:15 AM.. |
