let's be serious, his tests do nothing but test for flow rate which will basically prove the lightest oil will win. I only trust proven winners that are tested in high demand environments like liqui moly and motul and some others.

Keep in mind that automakers keep recommending thinner oils strictly for fuel consumption purposes. |

Any BMW LL-01 oil should meet or exceed OE requirements.
Liquimoly is fine, Shell Pennzoil Premium Euro, Castrol etc. Just look on the back of the packaging- if it meets LL-01 it's good to go. |

Pennzoil Platinum Ultra 5w-40 is praised over at bobistheoilguy, which is probably the largest oil forum. They have a crazy amount of information there.
But just be sure to get the non L version, the regular Euro version meets the LL-01 cert, the L version is LL-04, which is for european markets. |

I run both LiquiMoly 5w30 and Motul 5w30, both far exceed OE specifications. I personally can get a hold of Liqui much easier via Napa, and with wholesale pricing it's my best overall "value" for a DIY oil change. I'm under $120CDN and happy about it, with OE filter too

bmw can recommend whatever they want.
The fact is castrol still has BMW LL-01 certification, and therefore is good to go. BMW doesnt "recommend" Liquimoly, etc. yet were still here running it..so im not sure the point you're making here. |

the pennzoil platinum 5w40 is also a great product. I'm just not a fan of the 5w30. |

I never said liqui-moly isnt LL01? Im just saying: Regardless of what oil manufacturer BMW is in bed with this month (Pennzoil, Castrol, etc)..any BMW LL-01 oil is good to go with american fuel Whether that be Pennzoil, Castrol, Liquimoly, or even Amazon Basics. |

US and EU have same 10ppm sulphur in fuel so you can run LL-04. Canada has 14ppm changing to 10ppm in 2020, so it's likely fine to run LL-04 as well.

Any of the premium brands will work amazing at 5K intervals. The videos on project farm are cool but every oil is different he doesn't go in depth enough. The cold flow tests he does do not matter as oils at the same weight are not exact, you need to study the properties more. JUst change it at good intervals and it really doesn't matter. I always use Molly, motule is also a great brand
