Get a Dry Droo-in filter from AFE or a BMC filter

Aesthetically, they are an improvement.

Hey guys is there any advantages/dis-advantages to having closed versus open intakes?

Would it be more prone to heat-soak if i lived in bad weather?

Looking at AFE stuff atm, looks very nice thanks for OpenAir from what i've read closed will lower sounds but theres nothing else they say about it.

On a turbo car, performance will not matter whether it is closed or open intakes. A detailed comparison have been done on other BMW and the results were clear

Here is one done by BMS on the N54

Mike so you would recommend keeping stock and if anything getting better drop in filter?

Also what do you think about things like this "AFE Cold Air Intake Scoop"

I like the open intake .. It sounds much better, looks cool and will add some WHP (minor gains)

Second choice would be K&N filter with the stock airbox

I used to run the AWE full carbon fiber intake system. It was super nice looking eye candy but never noticed any actual hp gains when pair up with the full bolts and the ecu reflash and jb4

I added an AFE Air Scoop and a HP Autowerks foam air filter to my BMW 428i M-Sport equipped with Dinantronics Performance Tuner, Stage 1 and a Dinan Performance exhaust. This moves a lot more air into the system, and turbos love cold air. I didn't notice any seat of the pants effect, but I added everything incrementally. The sound is really good, and it feels less restricted so I imagine with the tune it may have added a couple of ponies. BMW really blew it with the N26 engine and had I known that is was so restrictive, I would not have bought it. I think the intake was designed to only allow so much air into cylinder chambers at a time no matter what you do. It is still a great car, but you can only take it so far. The BMW focus should be on building the best 4 & 6 cylinders in the world. Then there would not be any reason to engineer restriction into a particular model.

Stock, with charcoal element removed. Works as good as anything else would for an unmodified/untuned engine.
