widest tire that will fit on my setup

Guys, Help needed.
I got a set of 18 x 8.5" ET35 (square) rims fitted with 235/40/18 4s tires.
I was told only 225/40/18 would fit but I went with 235 ones and they fit so I wonder where the line is.
Would 245/40/18 fit? I have stock suspension.
Is there a calculation that can tell me for sure?
How can I tell the margin I have for my current setup?
Do I turn my wheels and watch somewhere to see current margin?

By measuring! I swear I spent half the winter on the ground in the garage with a bunch of rulers and squares, calculating and recalculating a super aggressive fitment on 17x9 with 255/40/17 tires. I'm cambered and rolled with a 1" drop so there was no tried and true fitment to copy.

Heres a website I found useful:

Thanks for the reply. I read another forum and the answer is clearly no.

Probably will fit on the fronts with some fender rolling. I have 245's on 8J ET40, with M4 arms which push the wheel out a good 12-15mm at the top. It's tight, but works.

The rear will cause rubbing I think. I have some room to fit lower ET, but probably not the extra 11.4mm an 8.5J ET35 will bring.

I have the same wheels and tire size for my summer set.
Potenza PP S04's. No drop, no additional camber, only the extremely rare rub on a particular high speed compression dip.
A little pokey, but I like the look.
Took them off my old E90, and they fit!
Maybe too much tire for most driving but mad grip at speed.
I was wondering what I was going to replace the Potenza's with, they're almost done.
Or do I get rid of them and go for the standard Apex 18" with 235's of some sort. (boring, but more mainstream look) I guess I know my answer.
