Iíve never heard my exhaust burble, pop or get loud on my M240i.

No codes are being thrown. I have no mods. Dealer did some sort of ECU update two weeks after I bought it. Iíve heard videos of the stock exhaust and mine sounds nothing like that. It never growls or pops or burbles under sport+. Before I take it to the dealer does anyone have any insight into this? 2019 M240i.

R u 6 speed or automatic ?
I hear mine (6 speed) when the drivetrain is thoroughly warned up and I rapidly let off the gas or blip my throttle on heel and toe downshifts at lower speed.

Within the last year or so, BMW revised the software to eliminate some of the "pops and burbles" because it was shorting the life of the catalyst.

A lot of folks, including in the M2 and M4 forum are complaining about this new update.

A flash tune would open it up and allow for a more aggressive sound.

Exhaust sounds quiet after system update? https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1598658

I have a 19' M240i, just took delivery in February. The car definitely has more pops and burbles than my previous M235i, however it's harder to hear with the windows up due to the improved cabin insulation. If I have the sunroof open or windows down it's more pronounced.

Mine is an automatic and Iím pretty sure it sounded more aggressive before the TSB. I donít hear jack squat now. I coded out asd to hear the actual exhaust and even under sport+ no amount of throttle play makes a difference.

I believe that is what OP is saying.

Can't blame him for wanting it. I immediately hit the DSC/Traction button to enter DTC mode in my M240i 6-speed so I can enjoy all the "fun" noises.

I'd be disappointed too if a software update ruined all the fun!

The exhaust note under sport was one of the selling points of the car. Yeah Iíd like the thing the car had when I bought it. It sounded pretty nice under load.

I am asking questions to gain perspective. Are you a younger person? I am not asking about the car having or not having features that it once had, simply interested in the exhaust noise.

I am not a younger person. The exhaust literally has no change from eco to comfort to sport to sport+ which is why I think there must be something wrong. I donít want more sound... I hear other peopleís m240s and mine does not sound like that at all.

After reading the review on the M240i I was excited for the burbles. When I got my car there were no burbles. After reading this thread I thought that I might have gotten the software update that eliminated the burbles. After several hundred miles my exhaust broke in and I started getting the burbles. They are subtle and faint but once you start hearing them you can't not hear them. You listen for it and provoke it with the throttle and deceleration. Startup procedure is Traction on, "Comfort +", and moon roof vented.

This is a 2019 North American M240i with 6MT.

I took the car out for lunch and enabled asd again. Opened all the windows and put the seats down. Only with asd enabled did I hear the faintest of burbles. I honestly donít think the sound is real now. Iíll schedule a service visit to make sure the flap is flapping.

I've got a 2018 with MPE and had the ECU update in January. I don't believe there to be any noticeable change in the amount or volume of the burbles. It's possible there's slightly less in Comfort mode, but hard to tell.

Have you tried traction mode? That seems to produce the loudest burbles. Leave car in comfort, then press the traction button (should see "Traction" on dash), and then move shifter into M/S mode. My car burbles like crazy when I let off the gas between 2000-4000 RPM.

Also, it is worth reiterating that it's not as loud in the cabin as one would think. With windows closed, it's hard to hear. Windows open, far more noticeable. Have you tried getting someone else to rev the engine while you stand out back to give it a listen?

I tried this last night with no avail. The car felt sluggish since it's in comfort mode. I only drive in sport+.

The exhaust is too quiet. Under spirited driving I cannot hear much other than wind noise and engine growl. It is during stop and go and around town that I can hear the burbles under deceleration. Time for a non-resonated mid-pipe.

I coded out ASD and I can't hear crap. I put it back and the sound comes back. Either what we think we are hearing is completely simulated now or the ASD coding can change how the car uses it's exhaust? I dunno. I'm just going to get the MPE and see what happens. My flap is apparently working just fine.
