Just ordered this camera from Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Street-Guardi...treet+guardian

I live in the south (North Carolina) so I need something that can stand up to being parked in direct sun for 8+ hours a day. This particular camera is supposedly up to the task. We'll see. It comes on Monday, just in time to install before my car goes back to the dealer.

In all honestly I'd skip the dash option. You and up seeing a lot of dash as the camera is a touch too low. Was worth a shot.
What are you connecting to inside the glovebox? There's nothing inside mine to plug into?

got any pics of your install you can share please? The request is for the USB Hub work you did and also maybe if you can share what images you get from your camera since it is flush on the dash as opposed to higher up the windshield? Thanks

TechnicPNP did a thread in the 3-series section with detailed pics. I don't have any but that thread contains everything you need.

View wasn't the best from the dash so I moved it up top. Pulled the a-pillar trim it was a 5 minute job.

Greetings from Charlotte, NC. I have a '16 228. I live up North. Haven't spotted any 2ers around. Nice to see you in the forum.

I am looking at options to install Dashcam as well. Just started my research. I am mostly leaning towards a non-battery drain option for obvious reasons. New to this whole Dashcam thing. I wouldn't mind running cables but unsure if I would break any cheap plastics.

I didn't do much to run my cables on the camera I got (the one linked in my other post). I just tucked it up under the headliner, ran it around the seam on the A-pillar, and then around the upper part of the door, under the weather strip, down the door, again under the weather strip, in front of the back seat and then plugged it into the outlet behind the center console. Worked great, can't see any wires.

I replaced the included USB cable with a 90 degree one. Then it's just a matter of popping off the speaker grille and pulling the center vent to run the wire for power. Can do either glovebox or in this case I ran it to armrest where I have a USB hub. View probably a little better if mounted top of windshield but that's hard to do and run wires in a convertible and I didn't want to see the camera from the drivers seat. Can post more details if anyone is interested. Under $100 all-in. I'd have done front and rear but again convertible complicates that quite a bit.
Got any sample videos from it? I've love to see what the picture looked since it's mounted flat on your dash.

Thanks!

I actually moved it to the top of the windshield as the view I was getting on the dash wasn't great. I also decided I wanted it more visible from the exterior as a deterrent vs stealth install.

I don't have any photos from the dash location. It wasn't bad - definitely good enough but the view from top of windshield is better.

How did you wire it up to the top of your windshield?

I just ordered the Vantrue N2 Pro and I'd like to get it installed near my rearview mirror.

It was very easy - at least for the camera I used as it had USB for power. I pulled the a-pillar trim and ran the wire to the glove box, where I just plugged it in. Took all of 5 minutes.

Here is my mobius, size of Tic Tac box. Hot wired to mirror, has capicitor so there is not a problem with the heat here in North Carolina.

I remember you had that usb port installed in your glove box. By chance you don't remember the title of your thread do you? I'd like to install one there myself.

Thanks!

Here you go. I didn't code anything so if you're just looking for power you may not have to either.

Sorry to revive an old thread. Does anyone know what fuse numbers to tap into for constant on and accessory (ignition) power in the fuse box under the hood. I had a blacksys ch100b installed today and the parking mode is not working. I have a strong feeling the guy didn't use the right fuse locations.

Just ordered one of these today for my 235. https://owlcam.com/#how-it-works

I'll post review once it's delivered.

A friend of mine pointed out owlcam to me earlier today. Interesting idea, although the $10/month for LTE adds up. I'm curious how they're getting "always on, all the time". If there's a voltage detection module in it, at some point the car's battery is going to drop below 12V and this thing is hopefully going to turn itself off.

There is a voltage drop detection element in the unit.

Right, that's what I figured. So it's no more "always on 24/7" than a hard wired dash cam with built in voltage detection. Their marketing seems to imply otherwise, at least that's the impression that I got.
