Quarter Panel Rust?
My passenger side quarter panel has slight rust developing. Can someone offer me input if it would be covered under BMW's 12 year Limited Rust Perforation Warranty?
I pointed it out to a SA during an oil change last year but he was quick to say it would not be covered. This time, I specifically have time booked to review this issue with the collision centre. I have no idea why it is rusting in this particular way. Any input would be greatly appreciated. |

Limited Rust Perforation Warranty.
BMW Canada Inc. (BMW Canada) warrants to the first retail purchaser, and each subsequent purchaser, that this vehicle shall remain free of defects in materials or workmanship which results in rust ** “perforation” of the vehicle body. **”Perforation” means the rust or corrosion of any components of the automobile body through from the inner surface to the outer surface. The warranty for perforation due to corrosion is for a period of 12 years/unlimited kilometres. |

Looks like a deep scratch down to the metal. Just get a panel shop to buff out and repaint, shouldn't cost too much. Doubt BMW will provide warranty on bodywork.

The rust happened because of damage to paint so no, it will not be covered. Once the clear and paint are scratched off, you need to get it filled in ASAP for protection from rust, especially if you live near the ocean with salt in the air. I lived in Hawaii most of my life and saw this happen all the time.
