Disabling horn sound when locking car while running

If I start my car and leave it running and try to lock the doors the horn beeps twice. Is this a new security feature? This never happened in my previous 2 series. It's annoying when I warm up my car in the cold early morning.

It's new; I heard it for the first time in a 2018 328i loaner car.. It was annoying and drew unwanted attention to me locking the vehicle with the motor on..

I coded it out from the loaner car and added auto power folding mirrors, to visually alert me of locking a running vehicle..

I am sure next owner will be grateful it's off now..

Get the Bimmercode APP and dongle from Amazon..

The word "coding" sounds technical and scary but it's like turning on/off a feature, once you get the hang of it.. Really, a chimp can do it..

But if you don't feel comfortable coding, there's a lot of vendors here that can do it remotely..

Google "Bimmer America LLC" and follow their website menu..

BimmerCode no doubt. Pretty inexpensive and very user friendly.

My question is why OP is warming the car up. With seat and steering wheel heaters, that seems superfluous and a waste of cold, hard cash.

I warm it up most mornings to deice the windows.
The heated seats and wheel are a must in NY.

I can care less about idling and the environment

OP: I said nothing about the environment. Do you have some sort of guilty feelings, perhaps?

No guilt here. Just too many snowflakes out there crying about the environment.

On topic here. I am a chimp. I have bimmercode and the bluetooth dongle. I love it! I turned off ASD and that seatbelt chime! also now have digital speed in the cluster which I find oddly useful around town.

I tend to keep cars ten years, and I am pretty old. Maybe this is my "last" car.

I am okay with that.

It's actually "I couldn't care less." I could care less means you care...even though we know you don't.

Besides the environmental impact it is also recommended by BMW that you set of after 30 seconds as warming up just the engine but leaving all other driveline components cold is not good for them. The engine will give you the performance but for example the transmission fluid is not up to its operating temperature yet and thus will cause wear to the transmission. It’s all in the owners manual. Even on my E30’s manual states this which is from 1990!

Thanks for pointing that out. Never realized it. Make sense in writing. We speak so fast in NY and some words sound alike.

You'd be surprised how many people say it like that. I only know because I had someone correct me on it a few years back. I'm in RI btw and people always ask if I'm from Long Island lol

I went ahead and downloaded Bimmercode and will have the VeGate delivered tomorrow.

I'm bringing in my car for its first service just oil change in 2 weeks.

Should I code now or wait till after the service?
