Your next car?

What are you considering next?

F22 end of production is 2020/21 I believe. I wonder if MT will be dead by then.

I'm either getting an M240i, M2C, or a 718 S. Always wanted a P car but the 4 pot really bums me out.

My next car will probably be something golf cart-ish or autonomous altogether, on the basis of how long I normally keep them. But I don't want to die just yet, so a run-out 2 series special has lots of appeal. Even though the next 2 coop is supposed to be on the same RWD platform as the new 3er, I don't imagine they'll build a car quite like the F22 again.

Given the news that there will be no next-gen 2-series cabriolet, I will have to settle for the next-gen 4-series M440xi ragtop (G23).

Next car won't be a replacement for the 2. With the bleak outlook for manuals, I'm turning this into a keeper. My next car will be a daily driver/family car, and high on the list is the BMW i4, planned to arrive just as my 330i GT lease ends. I will also look at Polestar 2, and any other EVs launching by then. My wife has a 2018 Mini Countryman, so that will go quite a while.

Will the 4-series be a true "ragtop" or continue with the hardtop? I assume you use the term to refer to all convertibles, but I actually chose the M240i convertible because it is a true ragtop. I have had both soft and hardtop convertibles and have concluded I prefer real ragtops because they are simpler designs, easier to maintain, less expensive to repair and they are now just as quiet and comfortable as hardtops. I go back and forth, though, on the looks with the top up.

Love my M240i. w/ Dinan add-ons (current and future) and my low miles driving, I may keep this one for a long long time.

Electric may be a possibility as ranges increase and prices drop. Two car family so one of each (plug-in and gasoline) makes sense.

Current M240i and Mini Cooper combo is about perfect for us though

I have a 718 S and I love it, the exhaust note isn't the best but if you don't mind it, then it slips out of your mind as your having fun. If you don't like it, I would definitely reccomend a 981 Boxster/Cayman with the flat 6 (if your willing to give up new tech). I was planning on buying a 981 but then my father-in-law was selling his 718 Boxster S and I bought it. The noise isn't as good as the flat 6, but I'm fine with the 4 cylinder, there are many other aspects that outshine it.

G23 is confirmed to be a soft top. The styling should also be pretty different from the 3er this time

I have a 718 BS and love it. It does sound different than the 6 but it grows on you. Performance is outstanding. My wife has a m240i and it's a great car too but.....the p car is the best I've driven.

We generally keep our vehicles >100K miles so based on our current usage, it could be a while. That said, my wife is so frustrated with the antiquated MMI in her Q5, especially when she gets into my BMW, I wouldn't be surprised if we traded it for an X3 M40i or Macan S in the next couple years. I'm probably at least 4 years from replacing my DD M235i vert. My heart tells me to put a 718 Boxster S or possibly Z4 M40i in my garage next, but my brain knows it's much more likely to be an M440i or possibly even M4. The only thing I know for sure is it will be a convertible. I tried to convince myself I didn't need a vert when I bought my MINI Cooper S Hardtop a few years ago with it's big sunroof, but I was so wrong. Like others, I may not replace my M235i, but rather retire it to our future "winter residence" in Florida.

My M235xi lease is up in two months and about two months ago I ordered a Mustang GT. A manual this time. Will be here in about a month.

Absent unexpected or intolerable issues/expenses with this car, I expect it to carry me for the duration.

I have to confess a manual 18 and up gt is intriguing me
normally aspirated v8 sound and torque

but it's the size that makes me question it...i enjoy the 2ers compactness
did you test drive one before ordering?

Yes. It is larger but not too big. More like a 3 series, but a bit tighter feeling in the cabin. I am with you there. I also came from much larger cars than the 2 in the past so the larger car isn't so bad.

The 18+ body style really got me though.

I see well I like small cars and I can not lie

the largest car I ever owned was a 2015 vette and I disliked its size...the dimensions of my ol 89 stang were just right...if only the new stang were that small

Yeah you would probably not like it then. It's quite a bit bigger than the two. It is 5" wider only though, if that helps. Not too much longer either. (I had to measure to make sure it fits in my smaller garage) It's just way taller.

3.0 CS, for sure.

I don't think I'll ever get rid of my M235i. Maybe a year or so from now I'll be cutting it up to fit either the M235iR or Prior Design kit. I'd also like to get it running E85 exclusively.

The largest vehicle I've ever owned is my 2007 Tundra standard cab with its long-bed, and it's incredible on snowy/icy back roads when it has ½-cord of wood over the rear axle.

If I was to replace the 228i years from now, it's going to be M2C, C7/C8 Corvette, or 718.

But that will definitely be years from now. Getting a truck in the spring and will have to pay that off first.

Trucks are as expensive as sports cars these days.

My plan is to keep the M240i and continue to use it as a daily. It does everything I need it to in that role. I'll pick up a 718 Cayman S, T or GTS in a couple of years as a weekend car and something to hold on to.
