New BMW car scent

The smell of a new car is mesmerizing, it gives you the feeling of luxury upholstery, 1st class leather, high quality plastic, old but classy wood like perfume. The feeling this aroma produces is unique and magic, immediately related to luxury and comfort.

I've been looking for that smell for a years with no luck at all, but every time I enter a new car it smells the same or very similar.

Has anyone got a spray or any trick to bring this smell back or keep it for long periods of time?

More and more air freshener companies are focusing on this problem. I've had good experience combining Yankee candle's Leather with wunderbaum's fresh linen.

I am disappointed in the smell of my new M235i. It smells like plastic. With my eyes closed it could be a Camry. I treated the seats with a leather care product that includes lanolin and this really helped with the classic leather smell. I used Zaino leather care, my favorite. Others brands are available.

Indeed. Very benign smell. Half the fun of the new car is the smell.

I use Gliptone Liquid Leather from Britain - cleaner is relatively neutral but the conditioner has a fantastic leather smell very typical of high end British cars. They even make scented deodorizers for under seat placement if the conditioner isn't enough.

I saw some air vent plug-ins from Japan before. The smell was pretty close.

eboosted , I know exactly what you mean, there is nothing like it. I highly, highly recommend this product for retaining that smell and luster. It is a funny story because I was just randomly cleaning out my parent's garage and found it, my dad had had it in a cabinet, and instantly loved the conditioning properties, and the smell of it. And it isn't even that expensive. Been sold on it ever since. Would definitely recommend giving it a try. It has kept that smell in the car for well past 60k miles and kept the leather soft and clean. I recommended it to another forum member and I think he was really happy with it as well.

Completely agree, the new car smell on the M235 was non existent. Check out a CLA 45 AMG with the optional recaro seats, I was tempted just by the amazing new car smell it had

I have to agree as well. All my previous BMW's retained that distinct BMW odor for the length of my three year leases but my 235 has no distinct odor after 10 months. I guess it's time to consider the upcoming M2!

It's interesting that this thread started today (or last night actually) because I've had my 228 for exactly two weeks and I was thinking this morning when I got in it how little "new car smell" it had. It has less of that smell than any other new car I've ever had and I suspect, because of that, it will last for a much shorter time than any car I've ever had. It is kind of disappointing.

Yeah, it is.

Nevertheless, the new car scent seems to be very well designed by a specific team in every car manufacturer, specificaly in the high end luxury car market. The scent/smell could cause a very powerful subliminal chemical reaccion inside the buyers mind forcing him to buy a car without even noticing.

I want to feel that way everyday, please give us that smell and I'll have this car forever.

But there are some, not many but some, VOC's that we want to injest.

I would recommend using Einzsett 1Z interior cleaners. German made and smell very much like a typical German new car smell

If you want something different - Stripper scent from Chemical guys has an intriguing aroma :P

Just guessing, but we may not get the new car smell because our 2ers are built at the ol' factory in Leipzig.

They're probably trying to eliminate most of it as it's not good for us.

To echo the earlier comments "new car smell" is a result of the off gassing of the injection molded materials and adhesives used in manufacturing, which generally speaking is bad, or at least "less then necessary" for humans.

Many countries of the world do anything to get rid of those odors and manufacturers are focusing on using compounds that do not off gas as much/or as long. It's kind of like people who like the smell of gasoline.

Get yourself a nice leather jacket and if you need to smell something just whiff that.

That's so not true!! High end car manufacturers have entire departments and teams solely focused on what the car should smell like when new and how to make the smell last as long as possible. It's s very effective subconscious marketing tool that almost made me buy that CLA 45 AMG which smelled incredible! thank God I already had the M235 on order.
