Raijins vs Oz hyper gt hlt POTHOLES

Anyone have either of these wheels? Looking to see if they will survive New York/Jersey potholes?

hi i had enkeis raijins for a while in my past car 19 in ,i live in mexico city so i know how is to drive in the jungle jajajaja potholes everywhere.

in my current car i have 19in apex (flowform).

in resumen i think if you use flowform flowforge wheels you are 100% safe on 18in wheels
Enkeis use MAT technology (flowform)
Oz use HLT technology (flowform

Not what you're asking but...

I once slammed a snow covered curb going 25 MPH with a BBS SR - if durability is your main concern those in 17" are about as good as you'll get for reasonable money.

Apex is a pretty safe bet for 18s that are very durable and won't break the bank. Really anything is better than the crap quality stock wheels though...

Another vote for Apex wheels. Had them on my e46 M3 and now have them on my 240.

I checked out apex and I like them a lot but I was thinking of running 235/45 R17s now. I couldn't find any apex wheels that are 17x8

Believe the only option for our cars from them is 17x8.5... ET40 if memory serves. Now that you are looking at 17s you'll discover relatively few options unfortunately.

A straight 17" looks better and performs better than a bent 18" and MUCH better than an emergency spare.

Are you set on 235s? A few of the folks are running this square setup with no modifications:

Wheels:
Flow Formed ARC-8 wheels in Satin Black
17x8.5" ET40

Tires:
Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R
245/40-17 Square

Additional Modifications:
N/A

I wish I would have sold the brand new MPSS tires I pulled off the stock wheels to put on winter tires and went with this setup for summer instead.

I would absolutely run those. But don't you need camber plates or spacers to fit the 245s?

Not with the 17s in that spec. 18s for sure though. So on Apex's website I think they say you do (to cover their butt), but in the actual Apex wheel thread on here there is an employee at Apex who runs 245s on 17" arc 8s with no other mods. He tracks the car as well with no issues. A few other posters have the same setup with no modification. I'd hit up the rep on here just to double check.

I called Apex and they won't confirm no spacers, just FYI. Was a week or two ago that I spoke with them.

Hey guys,

Sorry for the slow response.

The 17x8.5 ET40 is a pretty rare fitment for us on the 2 series, but we have seen it become more popular recently. It's not currently listed on our recommended fitments section for this chassis yet but I may add it in the future. You can run 245/40-17 tires on this setup without rubbing with stock suspension without spacers from what we've seen on Jake's car. If you are wanting to run coilovers, you may need to run a spacer and some negative camber in the front to get everything to clear depending on the coilover/spring design (avoid conical springs for easier fitment).

The sticking points with this setup are the brake fitment. Its a super tight fit in the rear because of the vibration dampening sections on the brake pads themselves. With Jake's car, the wheels just barely cleared the dampers with OE pads and EBC yellows, but they may hit and need trimming on your car. This is barrel clearance not spoke clearance so it wouldn't change with a spacer.

These wheels clear the base 340mm Brembo brakes that the M235/240 comes with but they do not clear the 370mm 2NH/Msport Track handling/M Performance brakes.

Please let me know if you have more questions!

Thanks
-Tom
