220i with M135i OEM Exhaust

Bought a M235 diffuser so had to change my exhaust as well. Can't afford a proper aftermarket M235 exhaust at the moment so I found a used M135 exhaust and had it installed + the tailpipes adapted, as they were way too short. Not a huge difference but I get a nice crackle when upshifting now I do plan to eventually change to a proper louder exhaust, but in the short term I might just get a resonator delete done.

It's just a stock M135 exhaust which had to be adapted (most significantly with the tips) to fit an aftermarket M235 diffuser. Would probably have been easier with a stock M235 exhaust but there weren't any available used and I needed one urgently. While I'm waiting for used M235 aftermarket exhausts to start appearing on the market, I got a resonator delete done...

cold start

Hi Icy J, I got now one from 235i and want to install it. Assume that pipe is 80mm on 235i but not sure what is the pipe on 220i? 60mm? Do I need to get a connection pipe or kind of adapter?

I'm not sure about the 220's pipe diameter but it's definitely smaller and you'll need some kind of adapter for the 235 exhaust to fit the tips might need some adjusting too

You have to change the rear muffler and it technically isn't a direct fit, as the pipe diameters are off (235 is 80mm or something, 220 less) so you'll need to get it welded. You'll also have to change the rear diffuser (assuming you have an M Sport model) as the 235 exhaust has an additional tip (and the existing one on the left side is in the wrong position anyway). The muffler itself will obviously fit.

It's a tiny bit louder, but not by much. Unless you're only doing it for the looks, I'd buy a 235 M Performance exhaust or an aftermarket one, not worth the slight increase in sound IMO. But then I always had an aftermarket exhaust in mind and my solution was only meant to be temporary as I was quite time-limited. If you're adamant on a stock 235 muffler, then I suggest cutting out the resonator as well, as it adds a tiny bit of noise.

The 220 won't sound anything like a 235, apart from an engine swap.

if the M135 exhaust was able to fit, then technically wouldn't the 1M quad exhaust be able fit too?

M135 as in F20, not E82.

Could a M235i diffuser (and therefore a twin pipe exhaust) be installed onto a 220i Sportline as well?

I like the sound, its subtle but more than stock.

No since the sportline models don't have changeable diffusers (not ones compatible with the M235, anyway)
