228i xdrive vs. 235i xdrive Suspension

Hi,

Im new to the forum and BMWs. Its been about month now with my 228i xdrive M Sport. Reading several threads and learning a ton. I see there are more choices with regards to suspension (springs) for the 235 vs the 228. Like most here I am looking for better performance and slight drop doesn't hurt.

I cant seem to find a good explaination as to why Dinan has springs for the 235i xdrive but not the 228i xdrive. I called Dinan and they (at least the person I spoke with) had no good reason why. Does this have to do with the extra weight of the 235? Will they actually fit and if so, what would be the ramifications of that install?

Thanks so much for your help.

235xi and 228xi spring rates would have to be different, the latter being softer. In theory, you can fit 235 springs on your 228, as long as they are the same dimensions, but you can expect that to result in the following:

front of the car higher than intended (with Dinan springs that already lower the back of the car more than front that might look peculiar)
harsher than intended ride
compromised grip of the front wheels
more understeer
compromised handling overall

235i (RWD) front springs on a 228xi vehicle might be a better fit since 235i front springs are softer than 235 xdrive front springs but there's no way of knowing until you actually try it.

That's in theory.
