Help w/ my First World Dilemma

I'm wanting input on upcoming tire/wheel decision. I sprung for the M-Performance BBK, and will need to replace my winter wheels b/c now I can't fit 17"ers; also wanting lighter wheels, as I'm noticing the extra unsprung weight form the new brakes (I was on the base minibrakes prior). Plan is to use these for mixed track and street, with at least 3 more track weekends. Suspension is totally stock, no camber (X drive w/ non-adjustable shocks).

So I'm debating options, and would welcome input. Basically torn between a square setup and staggered, which will then lead into sizing Q's. Also torn between sticking with the Conti Extremecontacts (Max-summer) or moving up into s/t that is an Extreme-summer. I've been advised that for my learning process I'd do better w/ the lower-traction 'Max' tires that will let me work on car control at lower speeds; others obviously vote for more traction.

In a perfect world, I think I'd love to run 245 square on 8.5 rims, but I see a lot of mixed info with some suggesting that this will rub in front. Anybody with direct experience running this w/o rubbing? What offset? Anyone who can comment about 245 on 8" vs 8.5 (I know technically 8.5 is better, but DK if it is a meaningful diff)?

Is it better/worth it to run a staggered setup in terms of track grip, or does that just help with acceleration/drag type use (and I'm in a 228, so less power to overload the rears)? I can live w/ the complication if there is a true benefit.

Are the Max-summer tires more durable on track (better sidewalls, etc), or just grippy and thus wear out faster? Any suggestions for the best versions in terms of feel (I'd rather have s/t that communicates well and breaks away predictably, even if that isn't the true fastest). Potenza S007A is the only listed one at TireRack, but I think I could run others in a 225 or 235 square or 225/255 staggered setup - Ventus, Advan, Direzza, Falken, etc.).

Thanks, input is much appreciated.

I'd shoot for 235/40 on 18x8.5" et45 square.

More tire options, cheaper tire prices, no fitment issues on stock height/no camber etc.

If you really wanted to, you could later run a 245/35 but fairly confident you'd need the added neg. camber.

+1, so you can run a 235/40/18 squared setup without much camber, i did it for a while. and their are more tires out there in that size. Im on a 245/40/18 and i run about -2.8* camber and get no rubbing issues.
As far as tires, have you looked at the federal 595RS-RR? they are cheap 200TW and great on the street and on track, however they over heat and grease over kinda fast on track, but on a smaller track they will be fine

Furthermore....

for that square setup, i would suggest the following...

Front & Rear: 18x8 et37 w/ 245/40/18 (F) 245/35/18 (R)

This will ensure you clear the strut and suspension as et45 up front with 235 tires rubs the suspensions components..... et42 on 235 tires clears it... thus with the +5mm each way, et37 is the logical pick..... as 'F22_shayan' noted, you WILL need decent camber up front or some fender rolling/pulling in order to get the 245 perfect. 235 no issues..

i prefer the staggered setup below.....

Fronts: 18x8 et40 on 235/40/18 or 18x8 et 37 on 245/40/18 as mentioned above
Rears: 18x9 et50 on 265/35/18

All my suggestions will provide you the flushest setup possible while pushing widths and thickness.....

Dumb Question warning...

How is running 245/40/18 square with the required camber adjustment for everyday street use? I would need camber plates for this right? And do camber plates alone work OK with stock OE suspension?

My 1st autocross experience on runflats in the 225 variety was comical.

This is exactly what I run, with a 5mm spacer up front. Did it so I can rotate tires. You "might rub" with my set up, without more negative camber, on track, but I don't have data to support that.

Running the 245 square? Thinking of going 245/265 for my street 18" setup for next year, probably PS4S's.. I think I can get reasonable camber dialed in with a 245 on a 9" rim. Hard to say without trying lol. The RE-71 255/35 fits, but need over -2.5* camber which is "track" mode for me. I don't like wasting money on tires when possible, they're not exactly "cheap" lol
