I have had my M240i since last December. I can probably tell you I have only seen another M240i maybe less than 10 times. I was driving home from work last night and I saw TWO M240is and one of which was the same color as mine. Funny how things work.

Bringing this one back as I've seen two in the past week in the Cincinnati region. Woo-hoo! Generally, I see at most a single 2 Series car per year.
Both sightings were of Portimao Blue cars – one was a hardtop and the other a convertible. The vert was an M240i; I'm not sure which model the hardtop was.

During the warmer months here in MN I see 3 or 4 2 series cars per week. Full disclosure I am going to car shows pretty frequently and there is always an M2 or 2 hanging out. And i drive through the Lake Minnetonka area (lots of rich people live there, unfortunately I'm not one of them....) frequently where it seems like every other vehicle on the road is a BMW. This past weekend I saw an M2, and a brand new M240i at a local show. I was able to park right next to the new M240i. It is crazy how much bigger the new one is. From width, to length, to height...everything was bulkier.

Followed this pre LCI, M240 xDrive vert into the parking lot at dinner tonight. First M240 I have seen since I bought mine in Nov 20. It was driven by a little ole lady with white hair. Not a driving enthusiast, I'm sure she just thought it was a cute BMW when she bought it.

The wife is also an lol with white hair (it turned white when she was 34! ), but I doubt she'll ever want to drive the M240. The main reason is that her Mazda 3, which has virtually the same exterior dimensions as our 2 Series and feels to both of us like it's 2/3 the size of the M240, is the car she's confident she won't end up scraping against one thing or another.

I saw the third one in three months at a Kroger in Cincinnati this afternoon. This could get to be a habit.
The color was a dark gray; I think that's the first time I've seen a BMW in that color.

I continue to be fascinated by the uneven distribution of these vehicles. I see about one a week within a five-mile radius of my house, on the North Shore of Long Island about 60 miles from Manhattan. This has been true more or less since I bought the car, now seven years ago.
Are there any automotive sociologists in the house? |

Car and Driver Magazine published some information on this a few years ago (e.g., Subaru is biggest in Northern New England, the Northwest, and Colorado), and it was generally informative.
