Transmission and differential capacity

Looking for the gear oil capacity for both the manual transmission and the differential. Want to do break in change, but cant find it in the manual

Buy 2q for gearbox and 1 for diff. This is based on personal experience from another forum member.

The only capacity in the owners manual is the fuel tank! Glad you don't believe in BMW's lifetime fills for those components.

My notes say

Transmission: Redline D4 ATF (according to Redline site), or Redline MTL (according to Mike Miller) 2 quarts needed
Differential: Redline 75W90 GL-5 Gear Oil - 1 quart

I usually buy extra, so I don't have to sweat it if I spill or goof. As an old friend once told me, oil is cheap,and it doesn't eat much having it on the shelf.

Be sure to remove the fill plug first on the transmission so you don’t get stuck

GL5 for all differentials! Putting GL4 in the differential will destroy it.
