F22 VS G42
What do you guys think?
Overall I think the F22 is better but the G42 is still a sick little (slightly bigger) monster, the rear end I just cannot get behind though |

I think your photos do a good job of demonstrating that the F22 is a more coherent design without odd distortions or exaggerations of body lines. Based on the look on its' "face", you're right...the G42 does look a bit sick...not sure of the cure. Your second to last photo seems to show you had no trouble getting behind it, though, I agree, I also wouldn't want to stay there very long.

I don't know. What matters most to me is the behind-the-wheel experience, and what the car looks like from the outside has nothing to do with that.
Still, how the car looks matters to me. My F22 looks enough like what I'm used to and like that I continue to have a good feeling when I approach it. If I was in the market for a new BMW, I'd probably get used to the G42 soon enough. Right now, I don't see it as an improvement. That doesn't really matter, though, as BMW has for some time shown that it understands well all of its important markets and is very nimble in adjusting to what they demand. Today, China is the market with the strongest demand. This will not soon change, and that market's needs will bleed into what we are offered here in the rest of the world.

I like them both. New model's flared rear end is pleasing to my eye as is the slightly longer hood (reminds me a bit of the Z4).
I like my F22 and will keep it, but if I were going to get into a new "Warrantied" 2 series car, I'd certainly configure and buy the G42. Perhaps not having a designers "eye" all these comments about this line, not lining up with that line is something I don't see nor does it bother me. Just because one designer doesn't like it shouldn't immediately relegate the car to the trash heap. Like the art world, you have artists that produce art that is enjoyed by some and disliked by others. I'm fairly confident artists from each camp can point out why the other's isn't up to snuff........................ Thankfully nobody is forcing anyone to buy anything. |
