Battery replacement
not wanting to add to my other thread or maybe I will add it there as well,
What's involved in replacing a batt on my 2, So I had done my 1'er and I do have ista and have looked it up in newtis I'm getting a official BMW battery on Ista it does show to scan the QR code but I don't have that ability shouldn't be a problem, BMW replacement has it as a 90ah battery when it's a 92, my contact said thats ok I'm a bit worried about the IBS connections, there's, newtis makes it look like not putting any strain etc, I'm also worried about sparking when reconnecting the negative any tips appreciated |

Not to be flippant but a half hour and a few wrenches! And that included emptying and replacing everything in the trunk.
I don't remember anything special. For coding it in, again Carly was easy and I think a worthwhile investment for anyone with cars like ours. As for the necessity of coding in the battery. I won't weigh into that discussion other to say that if you replace your battery with a similar one (AGM and not something different), the car will still start and run. ///Rich |

Battery replacement went fine, no hitch at all, I just took it slow and double checked everything, I was worried about the terminals being stuck or not being able to get them back on, sparking on the neg and of course the weight.
but no all went without a hitch ! interesting that BMW didn't connect the vent ! when they installed the battery |

Interesting that the battery has 2 vent holes and a vent tube ready to go. If these car's are AGM only , which I think they might be, why would an AGM battery have vent hole and why would BMW put vent tubes in there ready to go.
quoting "If you purchase an AGM battery...it should still be vented if mounted in an enclosed space AND it has a vent hole." https://www.bimmerfest.com/threads/a...-tube.1315261/ https://m.greenway-battery.com/news/...oles-1647.html https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...ve-a-vent-hole |

not starting another argument, but I changed the battery and put everything back in place and so far, have started it a few times and driven it to the shops, although I still get that horrible feeling in my stomach when I reach out for the start button expecting it to not.
I think with my experiences, I will be carrying my NOCO around with me for a long while. Not sure whether I will ever feel entirely comfortable and relaxed driving the car. |

so far all good,
funny, when using Ista, it showed on DME (run tests) battery was around 12.45 volts or so, but when I went on the battery later on late night, battery showed 12.61 anyway |

I'm wondering how long the original battery will last in my 2018 model. It seems fine now, and car is a bit over 4 years old. How old was the battery you needed to replace?

The OP had the battery replaced by the dealer due to the car sitting in storage and being flattened. As this was in Canada, any winter outside storage will destroy a flat battery if it freezes. With new cars that have not been kept on a battery tender, it is quite normal for a dealer to have to replace the battery here before sale, otherwise the customer will just be back after a few weeks when the battery won't hold it's charge.

I'm going to venture another statement....
(I'm still experimenting) but I've been monitoring since I replaced that battery, and no changes in millage, driving style, only the "Options" I use in the car. I use my Solar Ba9 every friday to check the battery, SOH, SOC, cranking, ripple and charging. I've found voltages around 12.87, soh/soc around 100% EVERYTHING good, EXCEPT when I keep my lights in automode. After a week of being in that mode, I get 12.37v and 50% SOC, then I need to put it on charge. Trials are not over, but I "think" that is def not right. heated steering wheel, 10km's each way, some short stop starts have "NOT" effected my SOC or voltages, but that has... will advise |
