Took my M235i to the drag strip, meh
This is my first auto car after owning and racing manuals, pretty boring lol. Second race was a 707hp Charger Hellcat, amazing machine.

Getting into the 12's on only 105 mph trap is awesome! I'm only a second quicker on a full 13-14 mph more trap speed.

Damn that Charger Hellcat was fast. Quite the contrast to the Challenger which just blew the launch.

Why, when I was a kid, I remember people sinking their life savings into their cars trying to turn 13s. That was "wicked fast" (1970s)
Now 12.9 is "meh" The times they is a changin .... |

Lol I've seen the pic of that car meet, so funny. He removed them. Same here, man. In the 90s anything in the 13s was quick and respectable. Today, family cars can run that. I guess the "meh" part was me racing an auto for the first time. All 14 previous cars have been manual since '97 lol.

Amen to that. I remember the 1970 Buick GSX was one of the fastest stock cars you could buy and it just nudged down into the 13's. Most of the other were all mid-14's. Of course the G70's most were running didn't help 1/4 mile times either. Don't even mention the horrible MPG's those car were getting.

Yes, breaking 12's was a real goal, challenge back in the day... Sub 12's = Godly!!!
And those sub 12's needed a lot of work, ignition, carbs, ported intakes, heads, full exhaust with headers and a change in the gear box... Anything lower than that needed NOX, hahaha My first car was 73' Pontiac Grand Am, (not purchased new) 400ci, 4bbl carb, headers, dual exhaust, turbohydramatic 400 trans and 3.73 gears. All for a whopping 200hp +/- lol... When I took her on runs, you could actually watch the has gauge go lower and not come back. If off the pedal, could get 12mpg, but averaged about 9-10. Thing about those Pontiac engines was the torque, she spun wheels like hell, lol. Anyways... Today's turn key racers, like the HellCat, may be fast, but there's a huge element missing. An understanding of how things work and the sweat equity it took to achieve goals! I know they're fast today, but there's a certain lack of respect for them at the same time. Stop by a dealer, sign a few papers and you're a 10 sec. race car driver!? Just lol... Most racers I know do their own wrenching, outside of machine shop work, etc. So for me... You can't buy respect! Only exception I'll make is if talking with the owner they "know" about their car, engine, etc., and went turn key for shyts n giggles I'm nobody special, but that's just my take. Be happy! That's a great stock run. Don't fret the 8spd auto, it's quicker than you can be, and is less work, mistake free. Less fun, yes, but still quicker |

Go find a track where you use that steering wheel for more than a backdrop to a timeslip, and you'll find the fun zone for these cars.

I loved autox with my Miata and BRZ and may try that out on the 2 next, just doesn't feel as nimble as those 2 were.

Yes, nimble is one thing our cars are not, especially when compared with sports cars.
