Charge Pipes
Recently purchased a 15 m235i and goin to jump on the mod wagon. I heard charge pipes are kinda a weak spot. At what point is it a good idea to bump them up? Iam gona start with the JB4 tuner and go from there. I know it bumps up boost a bit but is enough to warrant new charge pipes?
Thanx in advance PS iam new to the BMW scene be gentle |

When I bought my 15 m235, I read what others said here, and went straight to the upgraded chargepipe and the JB4. I am currently running map 1 and looking to do map2 (once I get more info on downpipes).

I bought my 2014 M235i a year ago and the charge pipe (stock) blew about 1,000 miles into my ownership (8,000 miles total). Car was stock and BMW replaced on warranty with a new OEM chargepipe. I have picked up an Active Autowerke tune (boost is pushed to around 13psi at peak) around 3 months ago and I haven't had an issue yet with the replacement.
That being said, the response you will get from 99% of members on here is to replace it immediately, despite what mods you have/haven't done. I'm sure it's only a matter of time. |

As others have suggested, upgrade the charge pipe as soon as you start tuning the car. Our 2 most popular options are Active Autowerke and VRSF

Do some research into flash tunes, BM3, MHD, Hex Tuning, Active Autowerke. I'll be looking at doing it when my warranty runs out and most people are switch from a JB4 or similar piggyback to the flash tunes now for better quality of tuning.

If you decide in the future (once warranty expires) to get a JB4 , you can return it to us for a full credit or you sell it used and get another tune

My factory charge pipe exploded today.
Can anyone from their personal experience recommend the top 2 or 3 charge pipes available for the M235i? Subarus have been more of my forte when it comes to the aftermarket, so I'm really hoping some of you that have more experience with BMWs can chime in and help me make the best decision. AA and VRSF seem to be most popular, but I also saw Forge Motorsport makes one that looks good? *** Oh and sorry to thread jack, I just didn't think it made sense to create a new thread since we're both looking for charge pipe help. PS to the OP, this happened a few months after my VF tune. So I could say that the added torque exacerbates the already weak factory charge pipe.

Mostly getting the stock one out is a pain in the ass, followed by getting the new one positioned right without banging against your tie rods.

With a lift and a friend to help you, i think 2 hours taking your time is absolutely OK.
Unplug carefully the sensor in the CP and the vaccum plug if your car is automatic. Remove the 2 clips at each end of the CP ( Intercooler side and engine side ). Then put the car at approximately 50 centimeters from the floor. 1 person goes under the car and 1 stays with the hands on the engine bay. The one under : push and flip the CP. The one over : pull and flip the CP. Change the 2 o-rings in the new CP and apply a little bit of grease around the o-ring ( order o-rings from a BMW dealer ). From the up of the engine bay, insert the lower part of the CP ( the one which goes on the intercooler ) and let it fall until the intercooler. Don't worry, it won't completely fall in the floor. Up the car, plug the lower part of the CP on the intercooler. Put the clip to secure. Insert the silicone part and the clamping clip on the lower part of the CP. Do not tight it now. Down the car and insert the upper part of the CP. Try to link it approximately on the silicone part and to the engine. Put the clip to secure on the engine side. Up the car and adjust the silicone with the 2 parts of the CP. Tight the clamping clips. Plug the sensor and the vaccum. Done |
