Stock Wheel weight for 2017 M240i (square)

Anyone have the weight of a stock wheel 2017 M240i ALY86134U ? Guessing about 25lbs each.

https://www.hubcaphaven.com/p/22470/...117845871.html

Shopping for some lighter wheels but need to know what I'm starting w/ first.

Would like to shed about 6 lbs. per wheel and about 2lbs each in tires. (Total 32lbs overall)

Don't quote me on it but if I remember correctly, it was something like 26 or 28lbs. Or maybe it was 26lbs on the 18x7.5 and 28lbs on the 18x8? Good forged wheels in an 18x8 are usually around the 18-19lbs mark so forged is the way to go if you want to lower unsprung weight.

I do not, but I believe you will have a very difficult time of achieving a 32# combo for this car.

Just to be clear, not looking to have 32lb wheel and tire weights....trying to lose that amount of weight from existing wheel and tire weights.

I did it with my Mini, Enkei RPF1 and Conti Extreme DW..shed 32 lbs over stock 17's and Hankook RF's.

OZ has 19 lbers if the stock wheels are 26, I save 7 lbs per corner (net 28 lbs), I'm sure Conti DW's are 1-2 lbs lighter than the RF's on my car now - so 28 +1 or 2 nets me 32 or 36 lbs saved. If my stock wheels are 28lbs, that would even be a more noticeable improvement.

Just need to how deeply I have to look for light weight wheels. If the boat anchors on my car now are 26lbs ea. ..Tire Rack has my wheels. If the stock wheels are 24 or 22, I'll have a much harder time finding 18" wheels to get to my 32lb savings.

The only hard data I have are the following:

The OEM weights of the staggered 18" wheels with 225/40-18 front and 245/35-18 rear MPSS tires are 48# front and 51# rear. They were weighed on a doctor's balance beam scale after 2K of highway driving. I didn't check to see the amount of wheel balance weights on the two wheels.

The weights of the Apex 18X9½ and 17X9 wheels w/mounted Toyo R888R 255/35-18 and 255/40-17 tires that I'm running are both 45.0#, representing in total a 18# weight reduction.

Having considered what you're now considering, I think you're going to have to look very deeply, and that's because there aren't a lot of choices for workable offsets for the rear wheels of these cars. When it came down to brass tacks for me, I chose the Apex ARC-8s in a non-square setup over a very heavily discounted set of square 17X9 custom Forgestars. My trade-off was the rate of non-square track tire wear vs. the increased cost of the custom wheels, and I would dearly liked to have had the advantage of the square setup of the Forgestars, not to mention their lighter weight.

Realoem.com often has component weights, such as for the 461M wheels on the M240i: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/par...&q=36117852489

Tyre choice can vary the weight by 10% or more for the same size, too.

From an unsprung weight perspective, smaller wheel sizes will generally have a lower weight for a given overall diameter, for example the 215/50-13 track tyre and 13x8” wheel combo I use on the Caterham weighs 13.8kg (30.4lbs), the narrower 195/50-15 road tyre and 15x6.5” wheel combo weighs 15.4kg (33.9lbs). Both wheels are similar cast construction.

Thank you for the link. Based on that, my stock wheels weigh 25.5lbs. Knowing that, I can now look for an 18 inch wheels that are 6.5 lbs lighter per wheel.

OZ Ultraleggera https://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Whee...taggered+Tires Look like a good choice @ 18.6 per wheel.

I also saw a number of tires that weigh in @ 20 lbs compared to the 22 lbs of my P Zeros (2 lbs net savings) (6.5+2.0= 8.5 lbs per corner or 34lbs over all)

I've dealt w/ them for my Mini wheel and tire combo and it worked out fine. Will likely do a tire/wheel/TPMS combo and stack the originals in tha garage next to the stock Mini tires/wheels.

impossible to get to 32lbs.

tires in 18 will be 25lbs, 17 wont be that lighter.

lightest rims will be 18lbs...

Best case is 43lbs.

OZ rims are complete garbage, dont get them. I have the ec-7 Apex's and i wouldnt get them either.

You want a solid, light rim that wont bend or crack, look at the Enkei Rajins. I traded from these to ec-7 and already bent both fronts twice. Never had an issue with the enkeis.

I'm not sure what your experience is with them, but I've had 2 sets of them (Ultraleggera and Omnia) and they are very strong for their weight having taken many pothole impacts without damage and the finish is resilient for winter use, at least as good as the BMW wheels. From a review perspective OZ wheels are generally higher rated than others wheels on Tirerack by purchasers, too. They are definitely better quality than the Enkei M52 wheels that I also have, from a machining and finish perspective. The Enkeis are not standing up to winter as well as the OZs, although they are still a decent wheel.

Strange, my numbers tell me differently.

Stock wheel 25.5 lbs - OZ Ultralegerra 18.6lbs (18" rims)

Pirelli P Zeros 22lbs each - Michelin Pilot SS 20 lbs
General Max AS-05 -20 lbs
Pirelli P Zero P24 - 20 lbs.

Again..not trying to get down to 32 lbs...trying to lose 32lbs across the 4 wheels and tires
