Hi all,

I thought i'd create this thread to collate info from across existing threads, and using your help, see if i've missed anything.

The main question to be answered is, what mods are required for bulletproof reliability to track the car lap after lap?

Here is my list so far:
1. Good brake pads and brake fluid
2. Transmission cooler
3. Upgraded FMIC
4. Gauges to track oil temp and pressure
5. Oil cooler
6. Oil sump
7. Fuel surge system
8. Perhaps M4 LCA to preserve tires

It'd also be helpful if you can classify each mod as a 'must have' or 'nice to have but not completely necessary'.

M2/M235iR oil sump and auto trans cooler upgrades would be the only thing I could think of as a "reliability" mod, the rest of what's listed is pretty standard. Fuel anti-surge system would be great, but at what expense? Keep the tank above half and save the $$ for something else, unless all is already looked after.

I think you already have #2 and #5, and whether they need upgrading is debatable. Ditto for the gauges - the engine will go into limp at dangerous temps, so all the gauges do is give you s/t to watch (and since it runs hotter than most are used to, it becomes a worry-source IMHO). There is a current post highlighting problems w/ charge pipes that would have me doing those before I messed w/fuel or oil systems. Things on my 'wish list' that I don't see here are a set of 4-points (Scroth setup for me), and wheel studs and taped weights with track-able tires (I put these w/ the brake stuff as almost entry level); adding a tune and better gas would also be on the list, but not sure that is the type mod you are seeking.

Does anybody still use an accusump? In dinosaur times, those used to be great for dealing w/ the kind of momentary oil starvation you get on track and a lot cheaper than a new sump, etc.

I had one in my race car. Unless one was absolutely required, I don't see it being put into a car for occasional track use.

Metal charge pipe too, since it wasn't mentioned. That'll probably be the first component failure which will put you into limp mode until replaced. Definitely will want to address that if trying to "bulletproof" the car from becoming disabled on track..
