Changing ASD in my M235i H/K

Hello together,

I am bit desperate. I tried to change the ASD of my 2014 M235i into an M3 or M4 sound. I played around with all options (engine and power class, model range, country variant and so on). But nothing worked. With every combination the ASD is shutting off.

So, question is: Does anyone has an M235i with harman/kardon speaker system and managed to change the ASD sound into something more powerful than the stock ASD sound?

I hope you guys can help me.

Best regards from Germany.

you have to return ASD software to I-Level F020-14-11-502. If your ASD have HWEL_00000F94_003_003_000, you may copy appended (I-Level F020-14-11-502) files swfl_000021d4.bin.001_009_001 swfl_000021d4.bsw.001_009_001 swfl_000021d4.xml.001_009_001 to your "FULL !!!!" psdzdata\swe\swfl directory and use E-EYS with Tal_ASD.xml and Svt_soll_ASD.xml and program it. All coding options should be functional. You can compare size of your SWFL_00003846_xxx_xxx_xxx vs swfl_000021d4_001_009_001

Hi smahel. Thanks for the information. I will check the software version this evening. I guess, it's not the correct one.
After that, it will take some time to download the full psdzdata (40-60 GB if I remember correctly). Also I have to wait some hours after one download (4 GB) before I can go on.

Hello smahel. I checked today my SW Version. It is none of them. I attached a screenshot (poor light while taking the photo) where can see the version.
Does this helps?

Best regards.

So. We are speaking only about programming ASD ! Last i-level with complete content of programmable sounds was I-Level F020-14-11-502.
If you want to have sound for M3-4 functional, you have to program ASD to this (or earlier) I-Level.
3 SWFL_000021D4_001_009_001 program files for ASD with HWEL_00000F94_003_003_000 which are different from later i-levels
and are not present in a newer psdzdata\swe\swfl folder, are in asd.zip.
If your HWEL is the same, just copy them to psdzdata\swe\swfl folder, open and connect E-Sys, in Options - Settings uncheck "Update VCM after TAL execution" &
"Update MSM after TAL execution" (your I-Level stay the same), go to Expert Mode -> TAL-Processing, use added (ASD.zip) TAL_ASD.xml and Svt_soll_ASD.xml,
use your FA and WIN, check only swDeploy and cdDeploy and program it. After programming, you can code M3 ( awful ) sound.

Thanks again. I misunderstood your first post a little bit.
Anyway, I figured out I have another HWEL. Is there still hope or can I forget it?

Thank you.

In my opinion there is big chance to get it - your HWEL is the same version, difference is only in subversion. Rest software is the same.
My ASD in I-Level F020-15-03-503 was this:

BTLD_0000111C_002_000_001
CAFD_00000F9B_001_017_001
HWEL_00000F94_003_003_000
SWFL_0000111D_002_007_004
SWFL_00003846_001_000_000

I think you can try to programm ASD in this procedure only with modified Tal_ASD.xml and Sol_swt_ASD.xml ( ASDmod.zip ) without any problem.

Alright, I'll try it when I finished the 60GB Download.

Thanks and best regards.

Hi Smahel,

I finished now the download and followed your instructions.
Uncheck "Update VCM after TAL execution" & "Update MSM after TAL execution"
Expert Mode -> TAL-Processing, (ASDmod.zip) TAL_ASD.xml and Svt_soll_ASD.xml
used my original FA and VIN
checked only swDeploy and cdDeploy
programmed it (3rd screenshot)
... then the programming failed.
I attached the screenshot (1st screenshot)

But I think the worst case happened as well. Right now my car is bricked. Means it doesn't start, the navigation display is blank and I get actually any error message the car can give on the instrument cluster. Well, I can lock and unlock it at least.

I tried it again and received a slightly other error message. (2nd screenshot)
Maybe it is only a little thing I have to change (I hope so ). Do you have any idea what went wrong and why the whole car is bricked when I only program the ASD?

FYI I attach the whole error log.

Maybe it is supporting to tell you that I have Esys 3.28.1 and I had to download pszdata 60.2 instead of 60.0 because the download link expired before I could finish the download.

Ok, I could solve the problem with the help of shawnsheridan. Thx again.

But wouldn't have it been easier just to flash to a new target i-step?

Your welcome.

You do not understand. The Drop-down box is to select I-Step Shipment, not I-Step target, I-Step Shipment needs to be set to what car I-Step Shipment was from factory, else you will have incorrect ECU HWEL's. If I remember correctly, yours was F020-14-03-502, which is 52.1.

I-Step target is not variable, and it is fixed based on whatever the PSdZData version you are using. I flashed your ASD to the I-Step Shipment Target, presumably you were using 60.x.

I have no idea why you ask me. I never mention ASD.zip. My guess is someone zipped up the ASD files needed to downgrade / flash ECU.

Hey - sorry for digging this up. But I'm at a bit of a dead end regarding my ASD.
My i-level is F020-14-07-503,
SWFL and HWEL are:
SWFL_000021D4_001_009_001 and HWEL_00000F94_003_003_000
which matches your description in the post. However my ASD is still not working (I don't even think it works when I code CAFD to default..???)

Would you be able to help me a bit? Thanks!

Hey schteeben95,
indeed, it seems a bit mysterious.

So, you coded the ASD ECU with your original VO using Code instead of Code FDL (not sure if I match the buttons correctly... using German version).

Then you changed inside the CAFD the combination (e.g. N55B30 and F001, which will definitely shut down ASD) and coded it?

Was there no difference regarding the sound while driving (actually it makes a huge difference)?

Hey thanks for replying. Sorry didn't see your message until just now.

So here's what happened:

1. Original condition. Nothing touched - ASD works. Good noise.
2. Changed Model to F080, and Engine to S55 - ASD fault. Doesn't work.
3. Delete fault code. Doesn't work
4. Coded back to F22 and N55 engine. ASD works again.

I think this is a pretty common ASD problem but just can't find a clear solution

Hi.
Actually that ASD problem never happened to me or my customers.

Does it still work again if you just code it (and not changing manually parameters)?

Right now I am on vacation in Florida. When I come back next sunday I could send you my working CAFD file for using the M4 sound. Worked for my M235i and for a friend's one.

Besides that my only idea would be to re-flash the ASD ECU with the appropriate I-Level.

I don't think my cafd is the problem. I believe it's the ECU firmware which is too new for the modified sound to work.

What would be the procedure to downgrade the firmware?
