For OEM 18s, those weights aren't bad at all. What are really heavy are the run-flat tires. They run 7-10 pounds heavier than equivalent non-run flats per wheel. I'd say that's offset by not having a spare in the trunk, but not quite; at least a spare is sprung weight ...

Right: Not having the weight of the spare in the trunk offsets having heavier run-flat tires on the wheels.

But it isn't that simple, since unsprung weight is far less desirable than sprung weight in a quick car.

the M235i comes with PSS non-run flat as standard in US so, no run-flats and no spare

No worries... ya unless you use aftermarket wheels... 24lbs is not very light....you can get some in the 17lbs range

17lb? that's kinda crazy, maybe for a forged wheel but prices are not comparable at all

24 lbs IS fairly light for an OEM wheel, which was the point I made. I'm well aware that aftermarket wheels can be lighter -- part of the reason they sell. (Aftermarket wheels can also be heavier; depends on what you choose and what your priorities are.)

Thing is, many just pay attention to the weight of the wheel and pay no mind to the weight of the tire -- which can become the heavier component of the two if lightweight wheels are focused on. Having more weight concentrated on the rim of unsprung weight instead of the hub of unsprung weight can significantly alter handling and acceleration behavior because of the laws of inertial and centrifugal mass. This effect is not as prevalent on our cars as it is on, say, a hybrid or a relatively low-powered car such as a MINI or a Miata, but it is still an effect.

I’m kinda surprised we don’t have a stickied thread that lists the stock offsets and weights for every stock configuration, plus confirmed fitments, photos, and weights for aftermaket wheel combinations.

Very true. Agreed, this should be a sticky.

So the tires (and compressed air?) add about another 20lbs I see? Im simply comparing your weights to the wheels weights supplied further up this discussion.

The staggered wheel weights shown above (from http://bmwfans.info/) and the tire weights shown for the MPSS staggered set (from https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...ot+Super+Sport together add up to:

Front - 44.8#
Rear - 46.3#.

With around 3,000 miles on the tires, I weighted my mounted set on a Detecto doctor's scale and got:

Front - 48.0#
Rear - 51.0#.

And icin235 shows:

Front - 45.5#
Rear - 47.5#.

The first are without wheel weights, and the last two include an unknown amount of wheel weights.

I have a scale that weighs down to 5 grams, but it maxes out at 33# (https://www.adamequipment.com/cpwplus-15). When I replace the tires I'm going to separately weigh the new tires and the staggered OEM wheels without weights.
