Any suggestions?
Are you sure it's not going off after 5 minutes? I have mine pinned to the rain sensor and it goes off after a few minutes and comes on when the door is unlocked or opened.

What model year do you have? So just to be clear the process I follow is when I get home, I turn off the engine in the garage, then with foot off the brake, I press the on/off again which turns off the radio etc

I dont think it is the wiretap, I think it the connectors, but not sure how to be 100% sure, dont know but possibly I damaged one, when loosing to get the wiretaps in?

Nervous to ask my dealer as under warranty and they might say I wrecked something...

The smaller one is hot all the time as it might be on the same circuit as the alarm (light under mirror flashes as RD stays on)

You could remove it and take it to the dealer and just tell them that the mirror only auto dims sometimes and tell them a friend of your had the same issue and it was a connector or something? Just an idea

Hey nice idea thanks. Wondering if there is a away way to Not refer to the connector as they might think also hey why is he referring to connectors...

They will know someone has been in their as I had to file one of the two plastic brackets slightly that go around the mirror, to get the wiretap through so they snap back together properly...

If I asked the dealer to just do it for me, what would they say?

So upon further testing, it will turn after approx. 12 3/4 minutes almost 13...(didnt wait long enough before) which is good news. I am new to BMW so this seems like a long time to me, I wonder if the dealer can reduce it to say 3 minutes?

Doubtful the dealership will but possibly via some coding? Not sure

It would be nice but not needed. Just worried about reducing battery life, but this is BMW factory settings, and under warranty so guess I shouldnt worry...

My 2014 M235i has the tap in the rain sensor and it definitely goes off after 5 minutes.

Radar Dectector - 2018 M240i

Thanks for the write-up … great help. I just finished install of Escort 9500 which I've had for a few years into new M240i. I used Mirror Tap and Blend Mount. I went into the power of the mirror (green/ brown for power brown/ black for ground as shown in your instructions). I had trouble getting power through the Mirror Tap at first. It would not stay in and was a loose connection. I resolved by using the longest probes and then trimmed some insulation to get the probes even deeper. Zip ties would not work for me. I used a very small dab from a glue gun to hold Mirror Tap probes into place. Everything works … enough power to run Escort and it turns on / off with ignition (2 second delay).

I noticed about everyone is using the mirror mount to put it right underneath the mirror. I've been pretty happy with putting it on the drivers side way up high.

I too like it high up on the drivers side. But I got tired of the suction cups. This worked GREAT.

It's a bit pricey for what it is, but then again, we own BMWs and this works great.

Up high is fine, if illegal in your area or safer from theft..

Thats great. Is your R3 configured/setup properly for your location? The range of the R3 is the best in the industry but unless you adjust it properly it might be too noisy/sensitive specifically on K band.

I like that spot but had to change because of not able to move the sun visor. Have you had that issue?

Can anyone help tell me where to plug in the black/red wire for this config?

I tried:
red --> brown/green
black --> black/brown

If I wiggled the cables a little, my V1 will start to turn on, but it eventually dies.

Working on 2018 240i convertible. Thanks in advance.

Make sure you're plugging it all the way in. It may seem like it's sitting correctly but may still need to be pushed further in

Just got my brand new BMW M2 Competition yesterday, 2/2/2019.

My Uniden R3 radar detector has an ugly cable hanging down for the cigarette lighter, and it doesn't go off even after turning the car off and walking away. I think I saw a post say it took 13 minutes for someone else.

Well, I scheduled an appointment for this weekend at Car Toys to wire something up for me, but they were unfamiliar with my car. They said it will cost $350. I am ok with that because I do not want to mess up my brand new car, and while I build PC's, I do not have experience with this kind of thing.

They said they were looking for other options (like some ignition power location) besides the rear view mirror mount. Should I point them to this post?

Thanks in advance!

Sure! Or just follow the steps, order the parts and knock it out yourself and save some money.
