Looks like there may have been a change made to the RBF660. I recall they used to have slightly lower wet boiling point compared to RBF600 but with a higher dry boiling point. You also needed to flush 660s much more frequently than the 600s because it was more hygroscopic. I'm thinking they just revised the numbers to show 660s as having better numbers all around because most people simply opted for the 600s due to the cost difference and very little gains in performance.

Anyway, ATE Super Blue and ATE Typ 200 are also very good DOT4 fluids that are much cheaper than the Motul fluids. It doesn't have as high of boiling points but you can just flush twice as often as long as your brakes had sufficient cooling (or didn't get too hot) and doesn't require higher temp fluids. That said, nobody's been able to get Super Blue for several years in the US as it was made illegal (possibly also discontinued elsewhere now), due to stupid people confusing the blue brake fluid for something else.

BTW, the very best brake fluid, AFAIK, is the Castrol SRF. Too bad they're just exorbitantly expensive.

I ordered ATE from one of the auto parts places (Advanced Auto IIRC?) for about $16/liter. Had to go mail order, they don't stock it.

Yes, but, I am not sure you'll really want to do that. The stock system doesn't intervene too often, but when it did, I didn't like it. I wouldn't necessarily do it if I had stock brakes. I am going to keep the assisted coded off because I am ordering a BBK and won't really need the assists but they are actually not bad to have. As a matter of fact, I wish I had them this last weekend when I boiled my fluid and the pedal dropped to the floor. The assist would've provided some boost to give the car some stopping power whereas with everything coded out, I was on my own. This is an extreme example since my brake calipers did catch on fire several times due to over heating, destroyed seals, and possibly piston scoring. Needless to say, the stock brakes are more than adequate for tracking. But once you decide to track very often as I have, the front calipers simply aren't enough. Mine are black now...

My car is primarily a daily driver so I think I will leave the safeties on.

I just got back from the track and I'm very pleased with these changes. The handling is very neutral now with the square tire setup. The pads and fluid both performed very well on the track. I didn't get any fade or softness in the pedal. We even got an extended session late in the day and the only reason I had to come in was because I was running out of fuel!

I read that the Gulf R1000 is the same formulation, I flushed mine last saturday and went to a small very technical track on sunday and even with stock pads never ran out of brakes, I was pleasently surprised. And I'm on RE-71R so they did taste some heat.
