Yeah I also have my badge on order. To install or not is another decision.

Any care to post the price dealer charged for the install? I'd imagine 1 hour labor charge or thereabouts?

Thanks bud, Likely will be about the same here. $156 per hour + shop supplies, disposal and tax......

I'll call my guy and see about ordering one. Figure if I add this, I should be in good shape for the Stage 2 when it becomes available.

Love the look of the CF Intake. Was easy to notice a difference, though nothing major, I can definitely tell there's a bit more power there. Now to wait for the Stage 2. Thinking of having her run on a Dyno in the meantime to see where I'm at. Anyone have a Stage 1, and Intake that's had some numbers run?

A known, non-sponsor shop/website is offering the Dinan CAI for $539. If you are interested, let me know and I'll pm the link.

I noticed Dinan no longer has the Stage 1 available, but now offer the Elite V2, which looks like its compatible across all b58 engines. Any thoughts?

Interesting, the DINANTRONICS Performance Tuner Stage 1 for BMW F22 F23 M240i page is now a code 404. I notice that the Elite V2 isn't road legal for California.

Have Dinan given up on the California market now that they've moved? They won't make an intake that's sellable in CA either.

I am curious if there is a stability improvement and whether us with V1 can upgrade.

Looking at the V2 Unit it seems almost like a step back and easier solution since this is now back to 2 sensors and seem like an improved dinantronics sport or an OBD-less JB4.

From the item's page:

+ Designed to be 50 state emissions legal; CARB EO application pending

It looks as though it's just a matter of time until the tune is CA-legal.

Given the size of the California market, Dinan surely wouldn't give up on it unless there was an insurmountable technical issue or problem. My 2¢ worth, of course.

The introduction of v2 must be to address the stability issues (CELs & error codes) of v1. From a performance perspective, it does NOT appear to be an "upgrade".
V1: 4 sensor connections, 414HP/478TQ crank
V2: 2 sensor connections, 418HP/434TQ crank

Dinan_Engineering Will it be possible to flash the stage 2 software onto the v1 units, or will an "upgrade" to a v2 unit be required? And, if a v2 unit is required, will it be included in the price of the stage 2 flash upgrade?

Substantial loss of torque - would be interested in overlay of the sheets - purely to see where the loss is not the actual numbers.

I emailed Dinan about these issues and they were kind enough to send a detailed response.

First, regarding the intake:

Quote:
Intake is not CA legal as there is no test approved by CARB to make it legal. This goes with EVERY aftermarket intake. Its not that it won't pass, but there is no means to test it. We have been working with BASF and SEMA for the better part of 6 years trying to do CARB's job and come up with a test that CARB will approve but to date none of our suggestions or methods we have put forth they have adopted yet.
I hope they don't mind me sharing this, BUT I think folks would really appreciate this level of context to the sitch. So this would mean that anyone in CA is SOL in regards to ANY intake until CA gets their act together in the approval process. I would think as far as mods go, air intake would be one of the more innocuous, but hey what do I know. If the absolute mess that the DMV is any indication, getting the state to get their act together in a timely fashion could be a challenge so I appreciate that they are way more frustrated than we are.

As far as the V2 ... yes they indicated they need to go through the approval process. I wrote back to say it would be great if folks could still order the DINANTRONICS Performance Tuner Stage 1 for BMW F22 F23 M240i in the interim cause that could take a while ... and I passive aggressively hinted that it would be great if they could offer a flash tune on the B58 sometime soon. But I can just imagine the approval process could be even worse.

So yes, California IS regulated to death ... but considering that the sky here has looked like Mordor from all the smoke in the air the last few days I guess I'd be somewhat inclined to not bitch about it.

Dinan_Engineering can someone please explain to us what is going on?

I am a stage 1 owner who is/was waiting on stage 2.

Why has stage 1 been pulled from the market?
What is the purpose of the v2?
Why have the number of connections been reduced from 4 to 2? Is this because of all the failures on stage 1? If so, as a stage 1 owner, should I be concerned?

Your responses would be greatly appreciated.

It really looks like the V1 for both B58/B48 were having issues to some extent. I know B48 people have been talking about some sort of flat spot of power at some RPM range. Interested to see what Dinan will say on the subject.
