Test driven an M2C and said not worth it?
I originally cross shopped the OG M2 and the m240i. In the end I decided the only thing the OG m2 had over the m240i THAT MATTERED to me was its looks and sound. I actually prefer the b58 over the n55, the better ride of the m240i and the all wheel drive capability of the m240i. So I got one.
I've enjoyed it, but I don't find I am that passionate about the car. Anyhow, reading many positive reviews of the M2C I thought I would focus on that car, as perhaps I would prefer it over the m240i. I recently test drove one. My impressions: the s55 is a beast in terms of torque, but I actually didn't find it pulled as strongly as the b58 at low revs. When I got back into my car, I was actually surprised that around town at anything less than full throttle it actually felt faster than the s55 m2c. There is also an eagerness to the b58 that the s55 didn't seem to have. It just feels like it wants to go. The s55 did not sound as bad as I expected, but it also didn't sound as good as the b58 (with m exhaust) I also found the s55 seemed to have more turbo lag, which is something I have a unique sensitivity to. So bottom line I preferred the b58 over the s55. the ride of the m2c definitely felt more composed that of the Og m2. I could live with it. The handling is as expected next level. The M2c felt almost as good as my old 981 Cayman S. And of course, the looks, the M2c makes me look back at it, the m240i not so much. So overall, I definitely liked the M2C more than the OG M2. But I didn't walk away saying I must make this move now. Anyone had a similar experience? |

At the time, I didn't drive the M2C but got the chance to drive it over the summer. I agree that it lacks some low end compared to the B58. This is actually backed up by several reviewers. It was nice, and definitely looks more aggressive than the M240 but I don't regret the decision for a second. Compared to the M235 the M240 is a little less engaging in some areas. The engine and efficiency do it for me though. I also look forward to the winter with the xDrive. My next car will be a Porsche but I plan on keeping the M240i too. It's the best all around car I've ever owned.

it is really the thought of giving up engine experience for the rest that causes me to hesitate and think I should just wait for the s58, but that will be years away...and I miss manual in the meantime and in the modern landscape there isn't really much out there in manual that has me interested other than the M2C Are you still contemplating the M2C? |

I test drove OG m2 and it did not feel faster than my m240i but more stable. Then I went to test drive OG M4. I preferred m240i dash layout and I found the exhaust sound from M4 quite weird and unpleasant but loud compared to m240i.
Overall I did not think jumping early with the financial penalty was worth it It would also be far cheaper to keep m240i long term as a DD

No. That ship has sailed for me. I was hoping it would work out based on my track needs and the fact that I don't want to spend an easy $5-6k on new suspension and whees/tires for my M240i, which it desperately needs, but after the test drive of the M2C, I'm 100% certain I'd be less happy in the end with the M2C even if money were no object. The recipe BMW used with just adding power and weight, while understandable from an emissions and regulations perspective, is really going in the opposite direction of what I'm ultimately after. My plan is to keep the 6-speed M240i, add suspension and wheels for track use, and hold on to it for as long as I can afford to keep it running. I will then add cars to the stable in the future to fulfill different needs. Maybe another Porsche in my future, but this time with PDK so the wife can enjoy it too. Or the G80 M3 to complement my other DD SUV for hauling the kids around on nicer days. Lots of cool cars out there, but I really don't think anything can replace the fun my M240i provides at the moment.

Just get a Taycan. Beautiful cars. Sorry, but 911s should always come with a screaming flat-6. Even an e-hybrid version would suffice, but all electric would be , IMHO.

If Tesla could make an interior that could get close to my CLS, I'd be sold. I would like a Taycan, but range, charging availability, and price seem to let it down in my opinion, but it is a great first attempt at an electric car for Porsche, and in Mamba Green it does look fantastic. As many things that are wrong with Tesla, there are some things they've gotten right, like the 370 mile range of the Model S Long Range, Supercharging network, intuitive technology, and start of autonomous tech (autopilot). Anyways, I may have went a bit off topic!
