Winter Wheels Advice
Hey guys!
I'm going through my first winter with my 2016 2-series with m brake package. My front wheels are 225/40/r18 while my rear wheels are 245/35/r18. I saw a set of aftermarkets which is 225/45/r18. These are the specs:Touren TR60 (https://www.wheelwiz.ca/wheels/toure...tal/3260-8809g) Size: 18 x 8 Bolt pattern: dual bolt pattern: 5x120 & 5x112 Center bore: 74.10 mm Offset: + 40 mm The bolt is the same which is great. The center bore is not but I think a hub centric ring can fix it? I'm super curious whether 225/45/r18 winters would fit without rubbing. If any of you have experience installing a similar set, please let me know! |

There's a fairly good selection of 225/40-18 winter tires. Any reason you see the need to go to 225/45?

rings are perfectly fine and work well enough. I've used them for snows before. however, given the option, I prefer to go with the same hub size. just slightly easier and streamlined.

I’ve run 225/45-18 Sottozero 3 winter tyres for two full winters without any rubbing, but I’m using 18x8 ET45 wheels. 18x8 ET40 wheels with225/45-18 tyres may rub on full lock on the inward turned wheel at the bottom of the front area of the wheel well liner.
With the extra 11mm of ground clearance that the higher profile tyres give, I get a lot less dragging of the underbody on icy ruts on un-ploughed roads, due to being much closer to an average car ground clearance. |

Try looking for winter wheels & tires on Craigslist, and you might get lucky. I'm near a large city, and there are almost always wheels & tires listed for sale. Likely from people who leased a car, bought winter wheels & tires, and now no longer need them. I was able to pick up a set of 4 rims with tires for less than $500 (US). The TPMS sensors aren't compatible with my model, but I don't drive than many miles in the winter, and didn't bother having them replaced.
On my '18, with the M-sport brakes I was able to fit (barely) a set of 17" BMW OEM wheels that were originally on a Z4. With the M-sport brakes with the larger rotors, you need to check the clearance. Blizzak snow tires are 225/45 R17. The winter tires are not as low-profile as the 18" performance summer tires. I have the same 225/40ZR18 front, and 245/35ZR18 rears that you have, but in the winter I have the same size front and rear. The overall tire diameter is about the same, and I haven't had any issues with tire rubbing.

I am in the same boat trying to find a set of used winters and wheels for my M240i. Hope you don't mind me questioning the pros here on this thread as it's a similar question.
Mine are the same stock wheel/tire sizes as yours. I have found a set of 17"ers, tires are 225/50 and the wheels have a 34 offset. Am I going to be ok with these? |

That's what I have on my 230i for winter use. I think that is the stock rim size for the 3 and 4-series cars, so you'll likely see more of that size available used. I just checked my winter rims, and they are 8Jx17 with 34 offset, and tires are 225/45 R17. What is actually molded into the inside of the BMW OEM rims is 8Jx17EH2+IS34. I guess that means a 34 offset?
As the previous poster noted, they do stick out a few mm more than the original 18" performance summer and tires and rims. Be sure to check mount the rims to make sure they clear the brake rotors. Mine are very close with just a couple of mm clearance.

I have always purchased winter wheels and tires from Tirerack, wheels always 1" diameter less than stock. The folks there will be able to tell you which wheels will fit with your brakes. That is usually the big issue.
17" because they are less likely to burst open when you hit a pothole. The downside of this route is that Tirerack is not cheap, but if and when you sell the vehicle, you will be able to recoup some of the cost. |

I too am curious about this set up. Found a good as new used winter tire setup 225/45/18. Will I have any issue mounting this to a stock set up? Mine is the bone stock 2016 m235i xdrive with factory stagger set up. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Willtheyfit.com With x-drive is read on many forums to keep the diameter difference below 2% I think 225/45/18 will be too tall depending on offset of wheels you use. Tire rack and 1010tire recommend 225/45/17 for 17" and 225/40/18 for 18" square winter set up. I always size down for winter. Mostly for cost. Here is my 240 with 17" winters (17x8 +35) |

Another year, another post... been searching like mad to see if I should spring on a SWEET use deal via marketplace.
M240ix currently running non-staggered 225/40/18 XL 7.5j ET45... Orbit Gray, couldn't bear to scratch them in New England weather. Awesome deal on a set of 225/45/17 winters (1 season) mounted on 8jx17 ES2 IS34.. looks to be style 158? According to Willtheyfit.com, LOOKS like these should work (albeit poke a little) and clear the brakes. I'm super cautious -- any advice if they will work? Thank you all! |

I can recommend highly both VSR in Bedford and Schneller in Newburyport (if you're on the Seacoast) as shops that can help in this regard: http://www.vsr1.com/ http://schnellerbmw.com/. No affiliation, just a very satisfied former customer of both shops from when I lived in the Granite State.

Thanks dradernh!! Unfortunately, I think once they’re mine, I own them.
Think I could measure brake from the hub outwards? Checking my stock rims, it’s a TIIIGGGHHHTTT fit already... hence, my caution on these. Buddies tell me I should get them anyway and resell if needed, but what a PIA. And I need an economical winter set.... |

I suggest calling the shops I recommended and seeing if they can help you. Frequently, shops like those have customers looking to get rid of wheel/tire sets prior to listing them. At worst, it's worth a try.
