installed a Rockville Slimline 10 powered subwoofer for $200
The sub with wiring kit was $115 and a add a sub harness from Technic PnP for $85. Added that extra punch that I was missing. The harness made the job fairly straightforward and easy. No need to splice or effect any factory wiring. It doesn't take up much space, mounted on the back of the passenger back seat.

I've got the Harman Kardon. Have been really disappointed with the system for the cost. If I did it again I'd get the 8". This fit really tight here and I've got it backed way off from what it can do so I'm sure the 8" would be more than enough for me. Couldn't believe how easy it was with the harness.

I agree! My previous car was a 2011 328i coupe and the base system in that was on par or better than the HK in the 240i.

I have an f80 m3 with the HK sound system. Would this work for my car as well?

Sorry for the late reply, you would have to check with Technic PnP for the adapter and check the measurements of the back of the seat for the sub. I went with the big one and wish I had went with the smaller sub I've got this one cranked way down and it still will vibrate the rearview mirror and would have been easier to fit.

What did you do for the audio signal? Did you tap into the rear shelf speakers?

Did not have to tap into any wires, that's what the sub harness from Technic PnP does. You get low level RCA output just for the Sub. I originally thought that's what I was going to do, tap into the back speakers but this does it much better and no splicing.

Harness plugs in between the OEM amp and LOC converts the high-level OEM amp woofer signal outputs into low-level aftermarket amp signal inputs for a subwoofer.

Thanks & question

Bluesman, that is a very nice install. Thank you for sharing.

Is this the harness you used: https://technicpnp.com/product/hifi-...ub-harnessloc/

I have the HK as well though have swapped the amp for a BavSound.

Did you research other slim subs prior to getting this? Not sure if I've heard of this sub before. I've been wanting to add that extra punch too, but I absolutely hate rattles. Do you still get rattles turning down your sub?

yes I did a lot of research. I had not heard of this sub before also. Everything I heard and read was great. I've had two other powered subwoofers and I think this is the best, definitely for the money. You can get rattles from any sub if it has any power. The rattles are from things in the car, either turn it down or fix what's loose. I pulled the back headrests. They were the only thing rattling and nobody is back there setting anyway.

This is what I have, HiFi (676)/HK (674) add-a-sub harness/LOC. They are very specific for each vehicle. This is for my 2019 m240 with HK. Only problem I had was having it plugged in tight. I have worked with things like this many times and had to connect it several times before I got it tight.

Question for Bluesman

Bluesman, I am doing the small install as you with the 8" version of the subwoofer.

Question: did you use this connector with your install?

Thanks!

no, the harness let's you use the RCA and the rest is just power and ground.

How did you get it to stay up on the rear of the seat? I drilled it into the back of my seat and when I put the start back up, the weight made it fall back down. The screws back out due to the weight. I’m using the same screws provided by Rockville. Thoughts?

I marked and predrilled the holes small then used wood screws about a inch long due to the thickness of the sub's feet and the covering for the seat. Put them in by hand slow so it doesn't snag the material.

Ah, so you didn't use the screws that were provided with the kit?

Also, mine doesn't hit as hard as I want. What are your settings on in your amp as well as the HK system EQ?
