I don’t know if you guys read the whole PuMA I’ve posted but I’m just copying this section again;
The initial coolant circuit capacity of the high-temperature coolant circuit was already optimised in the vehicle factories. The introduction dates are: F20, F21, F22, F23, F30, F31, F32, F33, F34, F35, F36: 01 September 2017 G11, G12: 5 June 2018 G30, G31, G32: 01 February 2019 G38: as of series launch As you can see they fixed the initial coolant back in 2017, so if anyone is getting a car that was manufactured before the given date yes you should check it, if your car is newer or will be delivered it has already been fixed as they claim. |

Factory 'underfill' was 100% my speculation, based on how much the level went down for such a short time. (without any trace of coolant on the floor) As a thermal system test engineer, I do know the coolant fill can be a problem. (It sounds simple but deaeration is fairly a big deal for cooling system) |

Low coolant 2017 B 58
I've had to add about 2 oz. of coolant each week for the past several weeks since the weather has been getting a bit cooler. The car has approximately 27k miles on it and I've had to add coolant on occasion since it was new. Has a fix for this problem been found by BMW or has a definite cause been determined? I see no leaks on the garage floor or in the engine compartment.

i ended up goin with the m235i until i get more info long term on the b58. i know you have to bleed the system properly too but thats unlikely the case on such new cars.

No cooling on pax side when a/c was on
Took my under-warranty 2019 X4 (26k+ mi.) in to my local BMW stealership because the pax side wasn’t cooling when a/c was on. No failure codes or warnings. Car seemed to be running fine. Tech noticed frightfully low secondary coolant reservoir. No coolant on my garage floor. To resolve, BMW did a complete engine replacement. Tech he said he found that the charge cooler had leaked coolant into the intake manifold. Said it cost $24k+ to replace engine.

I bought my 2017 M240i CPO about 4 months ago, production date 1-9-17. 29,000 miles on it now. After reading about this I checked my coolant levels and sure enough, both reservoirs were below minimum. No warning from the iDrive at all, it took about 8 oz's to fill both to max. Now it's something I'll be keeping an eye on. Odd that these weren't topped off at the dealership as part of the CPO checklist. I seriously doubt it's ingested 8 oz's of coolant in the 2k miles I've driven it.

I’ve had the same problem. Well below minimum on both main and reserve at 10k (did get a warning on idrive) and had to top off at 20k just now (no warning). 2017 m240i edit: South GA climate for those interested

The best advice, AFAIK, is to check coolant levels regularly when the car is cold, and to keep those cold levels between MIN and MAX.
I've chosen to follow Mike Miller's recommendation that we choose our target level to be at or just above MIN when cold – the issue being the fact that BMW models frequently have expensive cooling system issues that point to too-high pressures due to too much coolant in the system. I had my coolant flushed last November at my local dealer. Recently, after my car had been sitting un-driven since April, and on an 85° Fahrenheit day, both reservoirs were substantially above the MAX level. As owners, I believe we're on our own as far as this subject goes: check your levels, and adjust them as you think is necessary.
