New 2020 M240i quirks
I've had my car for a couple of weeks and am generally happy with it especially its brute power and torque. I'm coming from a Porsche 981S and aside from the power there are some odd differences from the Porsche and even most other cars.
The first thing I noticed was the radio. It has no channel SCAN function. Spoke with the dealer and they confirmed that SCAN is not there. Never had a radio with no channel scan so you're forced to manually change stations one at a time. I also went through every setting and display in the instrument cluster and could not find a water temperature gauge. Again, I've never been in a car with no water temperature display. There is a gauge for oil temperature but you have to search for it. Oddly though, with a high performance engine like this, there is no oil pressure gauge. The owner's manual says the M240i weighs 4,398 lbs. There is no way this car weighs that much and the BMW website has a more reasonable weight of 3,519 lbs. Makes you wonder how accurate the owner's manual is. So those are the quirks so far. Really miss using SCAN and seeing water temp but will have to do without. BTW, got the Long Beach blue and love looking at it. |

If you go to FM radio, it only displays channels which have a signal. That IS the scan function. On the other hand, I'm not sure if it has a tune function to find a station which does not come up on the list, but I've never looked...

The kerb weight is 1565kg (3450lb) and gross weight (which includes maximum payload) is 1995kg (4397lb), with slight variation in the kerb weight depending on model.

- Go to Media - Select FM Radio - Click to the left to get to the side bar - Under the star for favorites, there's another icon for manual search This will allow you to turn the control wheel to individually scan each channel. |

Each auto company has their unique quirks I’m sure and the two that come up a lot on Bimmerboards are the door handle needing two pulls to open and the center hot/cold rotary wheel, although the new Bimmers seem to be eliminating this. There might be a couple more but these two are frequently commented on.

How do you view the oil temp gauge? I want to know if it's alright to goose the car or not. I'm so used to the tach lights on the /M cars that I'm unsure of what to do with these cars besides just drive it for a while (10 minutes) before flooring it.

Press the button at the end of the turn signal stalk (>BC) until you get to the oil temp icon. Wait about 2-3 seconds and a temperature range will show up with the marker showing your oil temp.
