Biggest NOOB question ever
Please don't laugh but I have never bought rims in my life. Since our cars don't come with a spare tire I would like to buy one and leave in the trunk for daily commutes. The 2 series forum is very lacking in members compared to the other BMW forums so it's hard to find a local Houstonian with 1 extra rim for sale.
There are 3 & 4 series member classifieds everywhere and i'm wondering will a 3 series rim or 4 series rim fit a 2 series as long as it's a 5 bolt pattern and 19 inches and under? |

You need to evaluate the safety of having a full size wheel and tire in your trunk and if you were ever to have a rear end collision that has trunk space shifted forward into the passenger compartment.
It might be better just to search for the stocklist the offer the euro compact spare tire for your car and just keep that at home base for emergencies. |

If you are using the stock run flats, and live in an urban area where there is a tire shop within a 50 mile radius, then you can certainly live without the spare.
However, if you ditched the run flats, and don't have a can of fix-a-flat, then they make a spare tire kit/donut for BMW's. (it will take up lots of trunk space, although it sits in a bag so won't dirty anything) Seth |

I'm down to my last few thousands of miles from when I bought the car and plan on getting rid of the run flats. The last owner put Michelin Primacy run flats on them.... |

You can probably get by without the spare anyway as long as you aren't in a really rural area. I ditched the runflats immediately when I got my 3 series 11 years ago. Had a donut in the back, but I think I only used it once. Otherwise I've always been within AAA tow distance of a service station/tire shop. With the addition of the tire goo and compressor in the newer models, you should be fine.

I just ditched run flats and have a bmw mobility kit and a patching set (have used once before - really useful). I do want to get the donut spare eventually for longer commutes because if stuck somewhere on the weekend at night (has happened but on rfts) and the tear is big then it's a problem... I've seen a spare kit on bimmerzone - if you decide to go that route.
Full size just doesn't sound very convenient.. |
