I want to buy black kidney grills for my M235i, I want something quality so I was thinking of OEM.

Is there a particular option I should ask my dealer for or is there a reputable aftermarket company that makes them. I don’t mind spending a bit of money beyond the cheapest eBay item.

They were $115 cdn each with my discount, not crazy expensive. The Chinese ones are just absurdly cheap

Some people have had black trim turn purple from UV. I think it was mostly "sportline" trims with extra black gloss plastic bits in their side/lower intake areas. As far as I know it wasn't affecting grilles.

Yes, I have the grey covers, they look okay to me, just wasn’t a huge fan of the chrome but it wasn’t a huge change either as it was only a chrome outline

I ended up changing the grille (chrome), mirror covers (grey) and rear diffuser (dark grey) because they didn't make any sense to me. I went with black grille, black mirror covers and black rear diffuser on the white car. And yes, I did go aftermarket bits.

Not my approach, somewhat. I deft go for quality stuff if it impacts performance, durability/reliabilty, but I don't mind trying out cheaper options when it's just foo-foo/cosmetic

I put double slat in off E-bay. Was mostly I wanted black instead of chrome. But the solid slat looks better now that I study it.

My '21 230i came with these grilles from the factory. Seems odd as the window surrounds are chrome.

Funny story but when I bought my 228i used, with 32k on the clock, the lower fascia trim and trim piece on the rear bumper cover were bluish-purple. I thought that's the way they were supposed to be and kind of thought it looked cool. Then I got rear ended and they had to replace the rear trim piece. I picked up the car and that piece was black. I was like wth?

After the body shop couldn't find a purple piece I found the color change thread on this forum and I was shocked to learn it wasn't supposed to be purple. The black piece they put on was from BMW and so far, about 18 months later, it's still black. So my guess is they got the UV additive right now. But my front bits are still purple and now I don't like it... but I'm too cheap to buy new trim.

I have the original black trim from new. No issue for color change and it is still glossy black.

Black grilles aren't listed on my window sticker. In fact, the only option I ordered was a manual transmission. Somehow, navigation and park distance control ended up on my car. It's one of the earliest '21 230i's made.
