Smile Bought my first car. 2018 M240i.

So I'm done driving family hand me down SUVs and just bought my first car. Set the bar high.
Got a 2018 M240i XDrive with 9k miles for $34k.

I searched for about a month and half and had patience for a good deal to pop up. Now I did my research and looked at all your opinions on buying courtesy cars, neglected break in period, and so forth. First 4k miles were from the dealer and the other 5k by the "first" owner who traded it in for a C63 AMG. It's fully loaded with premium package, harmon kardon, etc.

With the risks in mind that I got a courtesy car, It's still under warranty for another year and a half or another 31k miles. Had it's first service today, and I only run Shell 93 NiTRO+ since it's a minute from my house. Plan on getting oil changes sooner than they're due. I do drive it very aggressive when I see open road, but usually on comfort or eco. No Sport+ yet and don't plan on it for quite a while until I'm used to it.

I think I got a spectacular deal!

If you care to share any opinions, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Dude! It is not just a spectacular deal okay?

It is a stupidly awesome deal! And you know what the best part is? You are in love with this car, and you are going to have a lot of fun with it!

Really, sweet ride. I love the black. If I may give an unsolicited advice, get ceramic pro on it ASAP! It may be a ~2k investment but it will pay dividends in keeping the black car clean, as with ceramic pro, all you do is waterless "wash" off. Makes life infinitely easier.

P.s. 2018 M240i xDrive cabriolet here. Alpine white/Red Coral. Fully loaded. God I love it! Have been driving for a year. Bought it with 8 miles brand new (I think?); it is tipping 15k already haha. Ceramic Pro keeps it looking showroom clean and shiny after a simple soap wash. It is insane how useful it is! I also got clear bra put on front. That was a great call!

Congratulations! Fantastic looking car! I'm shocked a dealer let an M240i go so cheap, especially with the premium package. I certainly never saw a deal that amazing during my search but maybe it's because I was primarily searching the CPO site (sounds like this car comes with just the remainder of the factory warranty, correct?)

I like the pop of color from the blue highlight around the aluminum trim.

As someone who considered buying this same car, I can say you are correct that this is not a CPO. It was sold by a third-party dealer. It does also mean that the current 0.9% APR from BMW FS wouldn't be available like it is on CPOs sold at authorized BMW centers. That may or may not be relevant to the OP, of course.

Yeah, this car probably should've been listed maybe $2k-$3k higher, due to its low mileage, especially if they had intended to buffer for negotiation. Very solid price but not out of this world. A lot of 2018s (often CPOs) have been going somewhere in the vicinity of $35k.

For example, there was another one (which the OP probably also saw, since I know he'd been watching for a while like I have) out of Chicago that was BSM w/Coral Red interior with an additional option or two. I had negotiated on that car but it was early in my shopping & I was still cross-shopping, not sure yet that a coupe would be a workable option for me - guy was firm at $35,500. That had more mileage than this one at 18k, but it was a CPO so to my mind those factors balance one another out. It also qualified for the 0.9% APR which means another $1k or so, depending on how much one puts down (if one finances).

All told definitely one of the best prices I have seen over the last month or so, but not by orders of magnitude.

As another point of comparison, I have been a little tempted by this one over the last couple of days... but it has a bit more mileage than I would like (also non-CPO): https://www.modernmotorcars.com/used...2J5C50JVB27961

Ah! Modern motorcars! I don't ever deal with non branded auto dealers but I flirted with these guys and they were surprisingly awesome and great to negotiate with. See, back in March 2019, they had a 2017 M240ix convertible, ALMOST fully loaded but with black exterior and oyster interior. God what a retro statement that combo was! The car had 11k miles; was listed at $37k; negotiated it down to ~$35k including, PPI, taxes, registration, and shipping from MO to MN.

All over email, and a two phone calls. Talked to Jennifer Murray. She was amazing!

Point is, get Jennifer, and get a great deal on this car. There is definitely some major play here! You can get it out-of-the-door between 29-30k

I know the Traditonalists enthusiasts love to talk up the virtues of MT here because that's how "daddy used to do" and "h0w cONnEctEd y0u fee33el" but in all honesty, screw all that BS. Get an AT; the MT is a bloody slog after a few trips to downtown, or hell, battling through any traffic. The AT in these cars simply cannot be beat. Enjoy the drive, "Traditionalists" love to fetishize the effort. This is coming from someone who learnt on MTs and drive MT for half his life.

Also, a word on RWD; I do not see the point of buying RWD in an M240i when you can get an M2C. Period.

If you are looking at RWD, then get an M2C; if you are looking for sure-footed plowing through snow storms, get an AWD. You won't be "throwing it around any corners" in suburbia, okay? Again that argument comes from effort fetishizing traditonalists haha

BUT, but, but... you will have one hell of a time teleporting yourself effortlessly from stop light to stop light in an AWD/AT combo. No RWD/MT combo can match that cheap, yet safe, thrill.

Go after AWD/AT in M240i OR get an M2C. The RWD/MT M240i is *pointlessly* middling; an M2 wet dream, nothing more.

Congrats and I think it was a "hella deal." Sounds like you'll be taking good care of your new baby. Just one warning, you may soon hate eco mode once you learn the overwhelming feeling of driving a spirited BMW.

Yeah I moved back home to my parents place because I was paying rent while having a job requiring me to travel Mon-Fri. That being said, I've saved a solid amount of money that I bought this cash.

I am curious, did you plunk down cold hard cash for a RAPIDLY depreciating asset? That's not saving money but... we don't buy these cars to be economical anyway haha

As long as you are happy!

Pretty much. Wrote out a check for the car, and rest of the money I had saved, I invested in the market in mid march.

This is hilarious - If you want point to point race - get AWD and automatic and get a coupe.

The 6spd RWD offers a great driving experience for a driver, I agree the M2C is even better, but the 6spd RWD combo F22 is much better from an engagement aspect than than any the awd convertible F23 could ever be.
