Starting point for performance mods?

Hey guys just recently got my 2015 M235i xdrive and have been on the forums for a couple months now I just do not know where to start. Where would the most sensible spot to start with tuning. I am assuming bootmod3 stage 1 would make the most sense but I am curious if I should add maybe a cold air intake or charge pipe as well. Any input would be appreciated. Also any recommendations for the intake or charge pipes as well any other mods you'd recommend would be great. Can't wait to start the modding journey!

Vrsf for the charge pipes, they're reasonably priced and their honestly all the same. As for the intake, you don't need it, they cause lots of problems on lots of cars. A good drop in filter is all you need, if you wanna get real fancy you can cut a extra hole in the lower half of the air box to mimic the M Performance box. Just look up a picture and copy it. Bootmod is a good time, it's what I run.

I'm in the same boat as you and so far, ordered a K&N panel filter, vrsf cp and BM3 from Mike at XPH. ^^^

Skip the intake, I had a BMS one and my car didn't respond well (rough starts and high IATs).

Thanks for all the replies. Have heard great things about XPH. Only other question is should I upgrade my spark plugs to one step colder?

Its always recommended to upgrade the plugs when tuning the car. The stock ones will eventually fail with increased boost

What would you like to get out of the mods? Stage 1, Stage 2, or elsewhere?

From my experience, i did stage 1 and im wanting MORE, but now i gotta add a couple more to produce more POWA. In order to get more power, there's a series of Modz to get. So if you want just a lil bump try stage 0+ or stage 1 for a bit.

I think I'm going to start with stage 1, I'm hesitant towards going stage 2 as I'm not sure what kind of wear it puts on the engine long term.

stage 2 is perfectly safe on the engine, you check the datalogs and see how the car is reacting to the additional power. With that being said, you are doing the right thing by going with stage 1 for now. If you want more power, you can upgrade in the future

Thanks for the response. Once I have some cash saved up I will look into one of the combo deals on x-ph. I am surprised you guys don't have a charge pipe bm3 combo, it would be perfect for a stage 1 tune!

Most customers don't get the charge pipe separate. They almost always add an intercooler as well. That's why we have a deal for both + the downpipe as that's all the mods needed for stage 2
