Best Catted Downpipe to run with MPE?

Hey guys,

I plan on getting MPE soon and was hoping to drop in a catted DP in the meantime. Anyone run a similar setup? How is the sound?

There's lots of suggestions for Fabspeed/Wagner/ER etc.

Is there a "consensus" on the best one?

About me:
DD the car about 60+ miles a day (very often in traffic) so can't have drone.
Live in CA so emissions . . .
Dislike CEL (plan on a tune much later when I've run the warranty)

Thanks.

Also keep your stock DP. You won't pass emissions with any of the chatted DPs even if they don't throw a cel.

Fabspeed is another really good option

Op,
If you do not mind paying an extra $400, the HJS cats used in the Fabspeed downpipes are worth it

The HJS DP is most likely to pass a smog if any as 300cell. the sound is great. I have it paired with an awe exhaust so will differ with an MPE. had the MPE without the DP, but don't think the DP will be much different in regards to drone with a catted and MPE

Correct, running the MPE as well. I'll find time during the weekend to put the video up. To me, it's the perfect blend of sound.

Hands down our Sport Cat is the best on the market. I have one installed on my M235i and I absolutely love it. No CEL, no tune required! I have it paired with our Muffler Bypass Exhaust but I have heard it with the MPE and it sounds amazing!

Check your PMs, I would love to get you set up!

Any drone? / Is it "obnoxious"?

Fabspeed Sport Cat + MPE = incredible. Very little to no resonance in the cabin.

Can confirm, no unwanted resonance inside the cabin. I actually have my valve unplugged to stay open on the MPE, but even if you found it to be an issue, you can always drive around with one valve closed in comfort mode.

no drone, valve open all the time. have done several 4 hour driving sessions and 8k miles total so far with no cel.

the sound honestly is just the bonus that you get with the downpipe considering the much improved throttle response...

I went with FabSpeed & very satisfied.

I'm running mine with stock exhaust and there is no difference in sound except at cold start up and WOT. No drone, No CEL.
I will soon eliminate ASD & then decide of I want to enhance the exhaust with a modification.

You need to keep your stock pipe.
I'm also in Cali and you may or may not pass the visual inspection part of the smog test depending upon how observant the particular smog monkey you choose. It's best to pick an inspection station in an economically challenged part of town, and if smog monkey catches it; you can always try discreetly holding an extended $20 while saying something like, "you can clearly see that there's a catalytic converter and oxygen sensor in that pipe."
If that doesn't work, then swap the stock pipe back in and then go back and pass the re-test.

I think this is one of the best mods, bang for buck & should probably be the first mod made.
