This is because my model was a "cold weather" version and there was a "snow valve" (see page 6 from the Dinan installation pdf). When you remove this plastic valve cover, you have to rivet a metal plate in its place (included in the install kit). Not difficult, but had to learn how to use a rivet tool as I said.

I'm not running any tunes, strictly the AI. It's claimed to add 10hp and 15tq, but to be perfectly honest, I didn't notice and have no way of verifying. Maybe it's there, but must be pretty subtle.

I did notice a change in sound (I had the MPE installed at the port), but again nothing major really. A little more throaty, even in addition to the MPE.

EDIT: the filter is oiled (at the factory) and is good for around 20k miles. Apparently you can clean it and re-oil, but would seem to me it would be quicker & easier just to replace. The replacement filters are $89. Also, Scott at Dinan was very helpful. I think he must've answered about a dozen questions I had.
So without the cold weather package no rivet gun would have been needed? How long would the install have been without the plate/rivet you think?

It took me maybe 40 min? Most time consuming for me was getting the weather stripping lined. I then had my dealer do the rivet when I went in for stage 2.

Correct. No "snow valve" = no rivets! I would guess an hour w/o that step.

One thing I forgot to mention about the "cold weather" package if you have it; from the Dinan installation PDF, there's this statement:

"...*Please note that removal of the snow valve may affect engine performance in extreme winter conditions...."

I knew this in advance, but wasn't concerned because I'll be storing the car during the winter, consequently I didn't ask Dinan what the possible effects could be during the winter...just something to be aware of before you purchase/install.

Doubt the gains will be much if anything without a tune as DME will adapt timing/ boost to whatever effect the AI has to mixture / AFR. You should see some improvements with a tune/piggyback.

We really need some solid data on if this intake actually adds any performance at all. My experience on intakes thus far has been stock is best.

I'd like to see stock vs. aftermarket airfilter only with more CFM vs. Dinan Intake setup.

Agree 100% - even using MPPK airbox [w/o MPPK SW] didn't anything for my car.

I reverted to stock airbox with AFE dry drop-in and AFE ram air scoop - works just fine with HFC DP and JB4 stage 2 on my EWG car.

I would seriously consider this Dinan AI if there are independently proven gains for cars running higher boost etc compared to stock setup......

Also an independent comparison with AFE closed AI would be good - AFE are claiming similar gains as Dinan for 100 bucks less. Its whether or not folks think the Dinan CF tube is worth spending the extra $$$ for.

Chaddy - you bet.

After EWG board swap, back to dyno to fettle map 6.

At the crank, 375+BHP from 4500-7000rpm and 400+lbft torque from 1500-5000 rpm. Lol quick, ha ha ha .

I ordered mine on April 24th and received it May 22nd. I'm in Canada, so that added a week for sure for customs clearance etc. I think Dinan is saying there's about a 4 week wait from time of order to shipping. I think the notice is on their site.

Some dyno comparisons would be awesome and I would consider this if the gains can be backed up. IMO its worth the extra $100, carbon fiber vs AFE hard plastic, Dinan logo which means you can leave it on for service. Looks good does not appear to have been rushed to the market and engineered well.

If I was going with a dinan tune this would be a no brainer. Wonder how it pairs up with a JB4?

On a side note, I spoke to my BMW service department Dinan Dealer and he hinted he could possibly get sooner than that 6 - 8 weeks. All the 3/4 owners are gobbling these up.

They sure do look the goods thats for sure ! Darkhold is pushing some pretty big numbers on his stage two turbo configuration .... and the stock airbox isn't the restriction. In fact i think the stock airbox netted better vbox repeatable data, that said it was compared to the BMS open intake . I hope there are solid gains on the Dinan intake as I will absolutely buy one if it makes sense.

that's one of the mean features I like about the JB4, adaptions of standard maps, custom map and full autotune map. I'm in no doubt Dina AI would work v well with a JB4.BP

The increased amount of air feeds into a larger volume airbox complete with a larger filter that elicits a sporty tone that makes the intake sound as good as it performs. You can actually here the turbo spooling sound. Music to my ears.
