My 228i will be up on Cars and Bids next week. As many of you know, I’ve taken really good care of this thing. Borderline obsessive lol. Spread the word if you know anyone in the market. How did you happen to choose carsandbids – OR – do you have any sense of where carsandbids fits in with the other options available for selling an enthusiast-oriented car?

If I was in the market, I'd certainly be interested and, quite possibly, bidding for it. I'm going to keep an eye on your auction to see what it draws in the way of bidders, commenters, and views. Good luck with it!

I picked them because the 228i doesn’t really fit on BAT and I don’t mess with Facebook, so FB marketplace was also off the table. My shop sold an E34 525i sedan through Cars and Bids a couple months ago and it was a pretty shockingly good sale. There are also no fees to sell which is obviously very nice! They wanted me to set the reserve at a figure that is actually more than I was originally thinking. May have to adjust that, we’ll see! Thanks for taking an interest.

Thanks, that is all good to know. I'll sell my car at some point down the road, and I hadn't heard about this site until you initially mentioned it.

Based upon what you're saying and what I've seen on the site in the last half-hour, I'm going to start paying attention to carsandbids on a regular basis. Compared to BaT, it looks generally to be a site much more oriented towards the average enthusiast.

I dealt with BaT before Hearst Autos bought them out. Those interactions were both successful and not, where successful meant the car was accepted for listing. The pair of guys running BaT clearly knew what they were doing, and they did it very well. I think they also left plenty of room on the table for a carsandbids-type operation. Given what they'd learned running BaT, it surprises me that they didn't start their own carsandbids-type auction site, too.

Well it’s done. I was disappointed at first with the result but the buyer is extremely psyched and I’m out of the loan so both those factors make it a win. Yes, I could have sold it to a dealership for the same amount two months ago but then I would have always felt shafted knowing it was resold at an unreasonable markup to someone I’ll never meet. This car was a really great experience in every way and I feel like it’s going to the right person. That to me is worth eating a couple grand… Although it would have been nice considering the costs involved in refreshing the E34 lol

Christ that sold really low. If I had been on last week I would have gladly sold my Estoril for yours. Close to the same build too, manual, slicktop, M-sport package and headlights as the only upgrades.

Wow! Yeah, definitely similar spec. I had a couple emails following the auction closing offering me cash. Of course, it was too late by then but this worked out fine for me. The high bidder and I negotiated a reasonable deal of about 16k. I think at any other time, pre-Covid, it would have been very hard to come close to the number, considering 75k+ miles, 2 accidents on the carfax and modifications.
