Weird Interior Rattle
Was hoping maybe someone here has experienced this, I have a rattle in this general area that sounds more like a clicking noise when going over rough roads. This is definitely an interior noise and I cant for the life of me figure out whats causing it. I have messed with the paddles and thats not it as it sounds to be coming from the dash. Messed with the AC trim and that didnt do anything, the A pillar speaker seems just fine too. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks!!

I've had this exact problem in my 2016 m235 but mine is more of a rattle than a clicking. It drives me nuts! I've tried everything to locate it but sadly I think it's inside the dash. I haven't asked the dealer to look at it because it's hard to reproduce.

Mine just started less than a week ago, and I think its inside the dash on the left side of the steering column, underneath the cluster. I wonder if its possible to go through the side(the part that hits the door) and see whats going on in there.

I wrote on my post right side, but I meant left. I did the center channel disconnect and then wrapped with felt tape to make sure I didn't have any issues with rattling so I feel confident ruling that out. I really think its in the dash now.

Anyone find a fix for this? Just ran into this today, crazy rattles while driving on the highway. Sounds like it's coming from directly in the steering column/under cluster gauges.

I'm still living with it, when I feel motivated enough I will probably open the side part of the dash where it meets the drivers door and look around inside and see if anything seems off.

I have this in mine in both sides. I pushed on the paneling and kept the pressure for a minute or two and it hasn't returned yet. When it's hot it doesn't happen so maybe the cold and hot days have finally caused this along with aging tires.

Hi
I have an interior rattle - sounds like its coming from the blue ring area on the original photo - but mines a UK car so its on the right. It sounds a bit plasticy, happens most when the road has a jiggly surface, reduces when it is raining, and seems to happen more when I'm turning right. And spoiling the enjoyment of the car completely. Can anyone help? many thanks. |

Sounds like this that seem to come from the same place on the same model may or may not be coming from the same cause. Modern cars have so many mating surfaces - plastic-to-plastic that is snapped together, plastic-to-plastic that is screwed, bolted or riveted together, plastic to metal and metal to metal. There are many such mating surfaces in the dash area. Thousands of heating and cooling cycles start to loosen those connections. It needs to be tracked down with a combination of hand pressure in various locations while driving, and/or some progressive disassembly.
