I don't get it, are 3 series owners critical of the M3? Unless some people are just annoyed at having their model knocked off the top rung for that series. First world problems...
As an M235i owner I like the M2. Just don't see the value in upgrading so will be sticking with my baby. Each to their own I guess. |

Having driven M235i, M2 & M4 back to back on track at Sydney Motorsport park a couple of weeks ago I can make a good comparison. M2 was still on standard Michelin PSS, others on the Bridgestone RE050 that BMW driver training use.
M235i is softer and will be great for the less experienced driver with more forgiving handling and smoother transition on and off throttle & brakes. Still a lot of fun though. M4 is more hardcore especially with settings to max. It is always fighting for grip on throttle and bites harder as power comes on more directly. M2 is a great balance right in between. Traction was much better with a slower power delivery than M4 so you can really get on the power on corner exit without having to worry so much about wheelspin. Top speed down the straight was about equal to M4 (245kph).

For me it's missing some premium options that are there on the bigger brother, I guess limitations of Leipzig production. Anyway, I always said I wouldn't race in on one of these given they are a volume seller, a regular production model in the M series lineup, unlike the 2011 beast. Maybe the LCI or CSL is the go, next year or whenever. |

thanks quite familiar with the engine, hoping I don't notice the detune, but really looking forward to rowing a manual box again, if I was getting an M2 it would be manual for sure

I have heard both cars in real life.. My mate has a M4 sounds good but a bit artificial especially in the cabin. M2 most defiantly sound better. In saying that i rocked up in my 135i N55 at the dealership. The M2 on show outside with a crowed around it.. half of them and some staff came across to admire my car LOL

It looks like a 30k spread is legit to me.
I paid 112k and 82k Is achievable for a specced 235. Well done to anyone who got a discount. If aforementioned discounting is based on being a somewhat VIP volume buyer, this will make perfect sense. A smart dealer will take a hit on the invoice but he knows you will be back for the next latest and greatest.. He knows you cant be elitist without doing so. Wouldnt hurt to see a pic of the invoice tho ? |

Agreed it is a strange decision....
Somewhat related, I recall buying a SS ute for biz purposes quite a few years back. Shortly after I bought it - maybe 3 months - Holden announced a SSII model that was $5,000 less and loaded with plenty more features. Was pretty pi$$ed and swore I would never buy another Holden again, and never did/would. So imagine how the M235i buyers that paid full bottle 18 months ago must feel seeing the same car selling brand new for $15,000 less. Now you have BMW releasing a baby brother to the M2 in the 240i with stats equally as impressive as the M2. Was on the M2 versus M240i thread last night having a read, and the M2 owners there are up in arms over it. The xdrive having quicker 0 - 60 times. Handling and aesthetics aside - still seems a strange decision by BMW with the only truly happy customers likely to be the M240i buyers |

The B58 motor will be very strong and tunable. And a 240 will be a great buy.
But..... they dont look as good as a M2 and dynamically shoud be inferior I have never gone for looks over performance until now. I had been been cross shopping GTR,s but looks and driving pleasure beat out performance in this case |

Did you order very long ago. Sunroof ? I ordered mine 2 weeks prior to delivery. Price wasnt the issue. Blue with DCT was. So consider myself fortunate to find one. |

Koastal, no sunroof. I knew in November 2015 that the price would be approx. $98k but forgot about on-road costs. Had my price in mid-March of $108k and paid $5K deposit at the end of April when the build date was advised as May with an early August delivery. Allocations took months but advantage of going to a country dealer and I had bought a 2008 M3 (wife not allowed to drive it) and 2012 135i (for my wife) from them, so good client relationship. Dealer delivery was $1200. Going down to one car as we live in Melbourne city. Motor magazine has a great photo of sapphire M2 in their June issue.
