I had never heard of this term until recently. I was asking about my Camry which currently has night lights for low beams and was told I should do this because the factory wiring is just crap. Basically with time, the wires carry less current to and from the battery.

Getting ready to order some thicker cable to do my Camry, I
m wondering if this should be done on the Bimmer too. I don't plan on adding more electrical load, but if I'm going to order cables to do it on one, I might as order enough for the other, if it should be done.

Do you think 4 awg wire will be sufficient? I was told factory wiring is usually 8 awg. Any thoughts?

BTW, if you're not aware, it's just running 3 new thicker electrical wires. Battery Positive to alternator, Neg to chassis ground, and engine to chassis.

I don't believe BMW has this problem but I could be wrong.

My Jeep does though, it's a known issue.

4 ga wire looks good to me! even 6 might do it, but I'll take the 4 for the safety margin.

Make sure you use pure copper wire with silver or gold plated crimp connectors, tinned wire and connectors are the issue for increased resistance with heat aging, as the tin migrates into the copper. Soldered connectors also age due to tin migration into the wire from the joint. The resistance due to poor connections will easily out way any benefit due to the lower resistance of heavier gauge wire.

Anybody else using this idea? I installed a kit on my dodge. But it actually needed it. I plan on putting a decent size sub box in and wondering if the larger ground cables would excel on these cars. (M235)
