And the 98 was terrific for cross-country cruising. Around town, though, not so much - it was huge, and it got 6 MPG. OTOH, gas was 23˘, too, and we never really thought about the cost of a fill-up. Times change. Problems with the Prince of Darkness?

No real exotics, but most all have been interesting. I tend to be attracted to cars that generate an enthusiastic or cult following(ti, 2002, Wrangler, Mazdaspeed 3)
Past Cars: 1974 Monte Carlo(seriously modded- really) 1969 Datsun SPL-311 Roadster 1967 Buick Riviera(bought for $5 in 1979) 1979 Plymouth Arrow GT 2.6(fast for it's day, four wheel disc brakes too!) 1972 BMW Bavaria(bought for $150 to supply parts for a...) 1973 BMW Bavaria(... my first Bimmer; a rolling restoration,I even lapped the Glen with it) 1987 Merkur Scorpio(nice car, too bad about the servicing costs) 1987 BMW 535is(one of my all-time favorites) 1991 Volvo 740 Turbo(very fast brick) 1988 BMW M6(wish I'd never sold it) 1973 Ford Bronco V8(inherited from father, hated it) 1984 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe(5 spd. stick; a work beater to keep miles off the M6) 1993 Nissan Pathfinder SE(A nice truck, but the Jeep was more fun) 1998 BMW 318ti(hated to sell it, but we needed a bigger car) 1997 BMW 528i(still going strong with its third owner and over 225k miles) 1975 BMW 2002A(eBay find, a fun project) 2007 Mazdaspeed 3(@280 hp at the crank with a CAI and a tune)

Problems with the Prince of Darkness?
drader...Yessiree! I learned that electricity is in fact, smoke that is carried through the insulation on the car...I was apparently naive in the ways of electrical conductivity
There are reasons for this. One example is that four could sleep very comfortably in both my 98 and my Vista Cruiser. Of course, we were younger then!
And the 98 was terrific for cross-country cruising. Around town, though, not so much - it was huge, and it got 6 MPG. OTOH, gas was 23˘, too, and we never really thought about the cost of a fill-up. Times change. drader, your comments about the 98 are spot on and I can't believe anyone didn't love the Vista Cruiser. Rode like a sofa but got horrendous gas mileage. I remember taking my Mom's 98 Vert (455 Rocket with a quadrajet carb) on a stretch of US 322 through Chester, PA at about a buck 20 when I was 16. Scared the crap out of me (not exactly a well controlled situation) but it got there pretty darn fast; you could pull stumps out of your yard with that car! Cool stuff!

Speaking of Oldsmobile, I think I had a 1990 Olds Cutlass sedan which pretty much ended my life long GM car love when at work one morning it would not go in reverse. The 80’s and 90’s pretty much killed GM because of quality. Bought a new 1982 Camaro in Cincinnati and didn’t even make it home from the dealer as the entire stick shift came out of the floor. Had a 84 Fiero with an Iron Duke that wouldn’t run and and traded it for a Pontiac Fiero Gt that leaked oil from day one. Pretty much every GM I bought for 15 years had major quality issues and thus a permanent switch to BMW and Toyota.

Cars I’ve owned:
1988 Ford Escort (parents bought it so I didn’t really own it) 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 (had to crash that Escort not my fault, got money and stay in hospital) 1989 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am (Back in 89 talked my Dad into buying this car. Sam Kinison bought the other car that the Thousand Oaks dealership had.) Anyway after my pop put a 100k on it, gave it to me. I ended up putting 15,000 dollars into it an screwed it to make it “faster”. Sold it for 11k. Anyway. 1996 Cavalier Z24 2002 Pontiac Firebird Formula (400 RWHP-380RWTQ and Firehwak Wheels and Hood). 2004 Acura TL 2011 Kia Optima SX 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible 2010 Audi S5 2019 BMW 240ix Have the only the vette and 240 currently, and just need to focus on paying this BMW off. |

That Omni GLH, my uncle, had a new one back in the day, I wasn’t old enough to drive, but holy molly, that was the quickest car I had ever been in at the point, hands down, just sick

Here goes - no laughter please:
1974 Toyota Corona Wagon (Before Toyota had the reliability thing figured out) 1972 Pontiac Catalina (400ci sedan, olive drab color - my buddies call it "the tank") 1986 Honda Civic Sedan (first new car) 1984 Mitsubishi Mighty Max Sport (what a POS! - see photo below) 1993 Pontiac Bonneville (Grandpa hand-me-down, sons drove it, champagne beige...baby poop brown according to the boys. Big, ugly, slow - Perfect son car!) 1994 Plymouth Voyager (see Mighty Max comment above...Mitsubishi engine) 1999 Honda Accord Coupe V6 (love the car - still - 315K bulletproof miles) 2011 Subaru Forester 2019 M240ix (still on the boat, but I'm counting it) I've driven them all till they drop! After private school tuitions, 2 undergrad and 1 graduate tuition...me time! What the heck, go ahead and laugh...I am! Last edited by Lynx_Rufus; 02-28-2019 at 10:24 AM.. |
