One Tire 10F Warmer than Others - cause?

I am able to see the tire temperature on my tire pressure gauge and it says that all tires are around 70F except one that is at 82F.

Could it be an alignment issue? That's my first guess. Car only has 30k miles on it.

Set a good baseline - wait till all tires are cooled off and establish the cold pressure - observe from there.

Brakes come to mind, too.

The tire temps and pressures only update every so often. Also, if you take a corner, the outside front tire will have generated more heat than the others.

It's consistent with every trip, though

I should note that I do get some tire vibrations at highway speed. And this is with new tires

is vibration in steering wheel or the car seat ?

What make are the tires ?

A tire with a defective belt I would guess would create vibration and additional heat.

I can hear the wobble as opposed to feeling it

Be sure to do a tire pressure reset in the iDrive controller while driving.

If you can switch the hot wheel to the other side and see if the high reading switches or stays on the same axle.

For the noise make sure the sunroof is closed completely and make sure all the underbody cladding is bolted snug.

I'll try the reset. I have an appointment at Les Schwab for an alignment, balance and rotation. We'll see how that affects things and report back.

As an aside, I've heard that sometimes the BMW radiator can get hotter on the driver side, affecting the front driver side tire. 🤷🏻*♂️

I have the same thing in my 2. while it was in for warranty work I asked the dealer to look into it. they found nothing and cited the brakes. i don't put a lot of faith in that since it happens only on one side, I'm not making that much heat in the brakes with normal driving and it doesn't happen in the similarly equipped f30.

I always suspected alignment and just waiting until I need actually need one. I'm interested in your results after yours!

on another note, the TPMS really gets my OCD! when the temps or pressures vary side to side I just want to get out and fix it, no matter how minor! it's funny because in older cars I'd never know unless the difference was huge!

If you want to take it up a notch from there, buy a quality tire pressure gauge and compare what it shows you to what the TPMS shows you.

Update:

Got an alignment and a rotation from dealership, but still have a hot front driver side tire that is 10F hotter and 3 PSI higher when warmed up, than the other tires. Still hear a slight wobble noise at freeway speeds. I jacked up the car and spun the front wheels by hand, but don't notice any real difference in resistance. Also did the wheel shake to see if it's a bearing issue - but solid. So rules those out.

Summary:
Not tire specific
Not bearing
Not stuck brakes, from what I could tell
Not alignment
Not low PSI

THOUGHTS?

My m235ix dose the same thing and from what I have found it looks to be a common thing across some of the newer cars and isn't something to be too worried about. There is a thread on the f80 bimmerpost forum that talks about this and they ended up using a thermal camera to find the cause, for the f80 at least, to be from an oil cooler right in front of the driver's front wheel. I'd assume that the 2-series is set up about the same way and that is the cause for us as well.

Here's a link to the f80 forum post and another thread on here of people talking about this..

Which tyre is warmer? The front right is warmer because of the heat generated by the turbo. Noticed this on both my N55s and have seen threads with others saying the same.

Put your hand on the front right wing when you’ve gone for a good blast and you’ll see why the front right tyre gets warmer!
